Weekend Track & Field: Bearcats Shine at Chehalis Activators Classic

W.F. West’s boys won the Chehalis Activators Classic and the Lady Bearcats placed second at the annual 27-team track meet at Bearcats Stadium on Friday and Saturday.

The Bearcats won with 111 points. Seattle Prep finished in second with 61 points.

Lafe Johnson won the pole vault for the Bearcats, setting a new personal best with a height of 13 feet, 9 inches. Colby White won the triple jump with a PR of 42-4½, and took second in the long jump and third in the high jump.

"Lafe really had an outstanding day,” W.F. West coach Autumn Ledgerwood said. “He has been consistently over 13 feet and to best that by 9 inches is a huge boost at this point in the season."

W.F. West’s 4x100 relay team of Carver Brennan, Jasper Ellingson, Ka’imi Henry and Troy Yarter won with a time of 44.84 seconds. The 4x400 relay team (Brennan, Dallas Taylor, Jack Mallonee, Henry) also earned a victory, in 3:34.34.

Jack Mallonee took second in the 300 hurdles (42.34), Brennan took second in the 400 (51.58) and Ellingson finished third in the 100 (11.70).

On the girls side, W.F. West was second with 89.5 points, 1.5 points behind team champion Maple Ridge.

Lauren Tornow won the 300 hurdles for W.F. West with a time of 47.32, a personal best. Tornow also placed second in the 100 hurdles (16.24) and third in the long jump (15-08).



W.F. West’s Kendra Bottenberg placed second in the javelin (124-00). Megan Flexhaug earned third in the pole vault (10-00), Emma Thornburg finished third in the 400 (1:02.71) and Emma Moon took bronze in the 3200 (12:16.46).

The Adna boys finished third as a team with 55 points. Austen Apperson won the 800 (2:00.94) and the 1600 (4:25.57). Luke Wellander won the 110 hurdles (15.81) and placed third in the 300 hurdles (42.34).

Several other local athletes had quality showings at the Activators Classic. Centralia’s Vance Voetberg won the 3200 (10:00.32) and finished third in the 800 (2:03.65) and th 1600 (4:31.20).

Napavine’s Noah Lantz won the javelin (159-05) with Pe Ell’s Ryan Shepherd finishing second (157-04).

Rochester’s Gerardo Sanchez-Carpio finished second in the 200 (23.23) and Morton-White Pass’ Tristen Storey was close behind in third (23.67). Pe Ell’s Andrew Schulz placed third in the long jump (20-03.50) and Napavine’s Draven Riddle was third in the triple jump (41-04).

Napavine’s Mollie Olson won the 100 hurdles (15.28) and the triple jump (34-07).

Centralia’s Makayla Erickson finished third in the 1600 (5:50.57). Pe Ell’s Maggie Elliott finished third in the high jump (4-08) and Napavine’s Chloe Stewart was second in the long jump (15-09).

W.F. West hosts Centralia on Wednesday in the final EvCo dual meet of the season.
