Wednesday's Prep Wrestling: W.F. West Wrestlers Wreck Rockets

The Bearcats made mincemeat out of Castle Rock here on Wednesday as the home team claimed their non-conference boys wrestling match by a score of 58-6.

W.F. West coach Jamie Rakevich noted that Castle Rock was dealing with a flu bug running through their team and wound up with a number of wrestlers competing at the wrong weight.

“There were a couple of matches that were tough and we wound up getting some pins that probably made it a little more lopsided than it should have been,” said Rakevich.

Regardless, Bearcat wrestlers managed to win all but two of their matches on the evening, including five pins. Damian Hernandez locked down a pin at 106 pounds, Bo Davis pinned his opponent at 132 pounds, Isaac Reavis notched a pin at 195 pounds, Daniel Matagi won with a pin at 220 pounds, and Bryson Boyd secured a pin at 285 pounds.

Henry Jordan (126) and Caleb Walters (138) both won with technical falls for the Bearcats. Meanwhile, Zach Evans (145), Connor Trodahl (152), Brock Guyetta (182), and Christo Parriott (120) all won in points decisions.

“We had a kind of a log jam from last year where some guys grew and other guys didn’t grow and it kind of put us in a pickle,” said Rakevich. “I think once we get down to weight we’ll have a solid team.”

W.F. West will wrestle at Montesano next Wednesday.
