Centralia put Aberdeen away 39-25 here at Riverside Golf Course on Wednesday in Evergreen 2A Conference golf action.
“It was a beautiful day for golf. We’ve had a few weeks where it wasn't so good and I think it was pretty fun for the girls to get out and have some fun,” said Centralia coach Hal Gronseth. “We had six girls score points and that’s always good.”
Tessa Smith was the match medalist for the Tigers with a round of 15 and Lexi Erb added 11 points. Lily Miller added six points for Centralia while Mazzi Nowicki and Jordan Blaettler scored four and three points, respectively.
Gronseth noted that Erb nearly birdied a par five in her round.
“That was fun to watch,” said the Tigers’ coach.
On the other side of the scorecard Aberdeen was only able to get two golfers into the points column. Ryder Heikkila scored 12 points for the Bobcats while Katie Lewis posted 13 points.
Centralia will play Rochester on Monday at Riverside.
Black Hills Defeats Rochester
TUMWATER — Black Hills’ Mckenna Canty earned medalist honors to lead the Wolves to a 97-24 win over Rochester in an Evergreen 2A Conference girls golf match at Tumwater Valley Golf Course on Wednesday.
Canty collected 36 points via the modified stableford scoring system. Senna Yim finished second with 21 points and Taylor Reed recorded 20 points.
Rochester’s Kyra Darnell led the way with 10 points. Kylie Miller tallied eight points and Ester Grosz added four points.
Rochester faces Centralia on Monday at Riverside Golf Course.
Tumwater Proves Too Much for Bearcats
Try as they might, W.F. West was simply unable to keep pace with Tumwater here at Newaukum Valley Golf Course on Wednesday as the Thunderbirds claimed a 100-59 victory in Evergreen 2A Conference girls golf.
Lily McCauley was the match medalist with a score of 35 and left W.F. West coach Bruce Thompson plenty impressed.
“She shoots par golf. She got 35 for them today. It’s impressive. Really. I was feeling pretty good about our scores and then they ended up around 100, which is right around where they’ve been,” said Thompson.
Although his team lost the match, it was the positives that stood out to Thompson.
“(It was) a really good day for both teams,” Thompson said. “We started the season with 30 points and now have almost doubled that.”
Elizabeth Twining paced the Bearcats with 19 points while Makenna Klovdahl and Laney Barker added scores of 13 and 11 points, respectively.
“Elizabeth played a very confident round despite playing with Lily (Tumwater’s ace),” noted Thompson. “Laney Barker with 11 points was well above her average.”
In a junior varsity round Macy Gaudette scored an eight point round for W.F. West. That tally represents a six point increase from her previous high.
W.F. West will travel to play Black Hills on Tuesday.
