Six Trailblazers recorded double digit scoring, led by sophomore guard Caitlin Yenne’s 20, and Centralia blasted Grays Harbor 88-32 in a Northwest Athletic Conference West Region win at home Wednesday.
Centralia (19-7, 12-0 West) extended its West-Region-leading win streak to 12 games, the second-longest active win streak in the NWAC behind Umpqua’s 26-game winning streak.
Yenne had an all-around game for the Blazers, adding five rebounds, five steals and two blocks on 9 of 20 shooting from the field.
Piper Cai scored 15 points and grabbed seven boards, while Rachel Wilkerson came off the bench to drop in 13 points. Selena Cudney and Megan Cash each contributed 11 and Lindsey Nurmi added 10 points, eight assists and six steals.
The Blazers offense was on fire, hitting 35 of 80 shots (44 percent), but their defense was even more blistering. Centralia forced winless Grays Harbor (0-15, 0-11 West) into 37 turnovers and swiped the ball 24 times while committing just 11 turnovers of its own.
The Chokers were led by Armonnie Byrd’s team-high 18 points and game-high 15 rebounds. Grays Harbor was held to 33 percent shooting on 13 of 40 shots, including 3 of 12 from the 3-point line (25 percent). The Blazers won the rebounding battle 39-34.
Centralia will look to keep its win streak alive when it hits the road to take on West Region foe Green River (2-23, 2-10 West) at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Next Wednesday, Feb. 26 is the Blazers’ regular-season finale at home against South Puget Sound at 6 p.m. The NWAC playoffs begin March 5.
Gray’s Harbor’s Tristan Schoepf scored a game-high 16 points and the Chokers handed Centralia its second-straight loss in a 62-58 victory over the Trailblazers here Wednesday.
Kobe Matsen and Elijah Hoover scored a team-high 15 points each for the Blazers, which have now lost four of their last six matches. Matsen added a team-high six rebounds, four blocks and four assists on 6 of 11 shooting, including 3 of 5 from long range.
Centralia falls to 10-16 over all in the Northwest Athletic Conference and 5-7 in the West Region.
The Blazers actually shot surprisingly well on the night, 20 of 46 at a 44 percent clip, compared to the Chokers’ 21 of 51 from the floor (41 percent). Centralia turned it over 16 times while forcing Grays Harbor into 13 turnovers, and the Blazers were outrebounded 31-26.
Tyler Ashmore scored eight points and grabbed four rebounds. Jaylin Walker connected for seven points off the bench and snatched two steals. Taylor Peppinger also scored seven points while pulling down three boards and dishing out two assists.
The Blazers have two more regular-season matches to go, starting with on the road against West Region opponent Green River (13-14, 5-7 West) at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 26.
