Wednesday's Centralia College Basketball: Lady Blazers Rout Tacoma 71-46

TACOMA — The host Titans were in charge for a quarter Wednesday night, but the Lady Blazers pitched a shutout in the fourth quarter for a 71-46 NWAC West Region women’s basketball victory.

Ashley Huffine came off the bench to lead all scorers with 15 points, going 5 of 9 from the field and 4 of 7 from long range for Centralia.

Selena Cudney added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the winners, who stayed undefeated in West Region play with the win.

The Lady Blazers trailed 21-19 after a quarter, but rallied to take a 36-30 lead into halftime. They then held Tacoma scoreless in the fourth quarter, turning an eight-point lead into a convincing win.

Caitlin Yenne added 14 points, four rebounds and three steals for Centralia, with Megan Cash chipping in nine points and seven rebounds.

Tacoma committed 23 turnovers and went just 16 of 49 (33 percent) from the field.



Centralia (17-7, 10-0 West Region) plays at Highline on Saturday with a noon tipoff.

Blazers Men Carried by Red-Hot Shooting

TACOMA — The Blazers took a three-point lead at halftime and hung on in the second half for a 68-64 Northwest Athletic Conference victory over Tacoma Wednesday night on the road.

Kobe Matsen scored a team-high 15 points and eight rebounds to lead Centralia (10-14, 5-5 NWAC) to their second-straight win. The Trailblazers are now 5-5 in their last 10 games and sit tied for third in the West Region with Grays Harbor (14-11, 5-5 NWAC).

Centralia shot a red-hot 47 percent from the field on 26 of 55 shooting, made even more impressive by the fact they shot just 21 percent from long range (3 of 14). L’Marcus Walker pumped in 14 points off the bench and snared eight rebounds. Tyler Ashmore contributed 12 points and five rebounds on 5 of 11 shooting, while Jerry Boston added nine points and three boards.

The Trailblazers will look to keep their win streak going when they travel to Highline for a 2 p.m. matchup on Saturday.
