Wednesday's Boys Golf: Tigers Stay Out of the Rough to Beat Rochester

Centralia was able to defend their (shared) home turf here on Wednesday by turning away Rochester 249-291 in a 2A Evergreen Conference boys golf match.

Centralia’s Rudy Voetberg was the match medalist with a score of 40, while Brett Wasson, Nolan Rice, and Jesse Kuykendall all shot 45.

“That was a good team score for them,” said Rochester coach Eric Homkvist. “With four guys shooting mid-40s or better, that’s going to be tough to beat.”

Rochester was led by Logan Fry with a round of 49 while Luke Barth turned in a score of 52. Gabe Masias shot a 57 for the Warriors and Ethan Eyer posted a score of 63.

“We were looking at their bottom scores and kind of hoping that our 4th and 5th place finishers would pick up some strokes but they didn’t shoot quite as well as we needed them to,” added Holmkvist.

Holmkvist added that he expects to mix up the lineup before the next match in order to give some junior varsity golfers a shot to show what they’ve got.

“It will be a couple of weeks before we let the dust settle.”

Rochester (0-1) will play at Aberdeen on Monday.
