NAPAVINE — Napavine’s Solana Sanchez hit a ground ball to second base to bring home Ada Williams in the bottom of the eighth, which gave the Tigers a 4-3 win in a Central 2B League softball game here Wednesday.

It was a pitcher's duel between Napavine’s Abbi Music and Onalaska’s Amy Henderson. Music allowed one hit and one walk and struck out 16 batters. Henderson allowed eight hits, with one walk and four strikeouts.

Maddie Thompson was 2 for 4 with two runs, Cortney Oster was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Williams was 3 for 4 with two runs, a double and an RBI for the Tigers.

Henderson had the lone hit for the Lady Loggers.

The Tigers led 3-0 going into the seventh inning. Onalaska had two runners on before Henderson hit the ball to right field and capitalized on errors to tie the game at 3-3.

Williams led off the bottom of the eighth with a double and Oster laid down a sacrifice bunt to move her to third before Sanchez’s ground ball brought home the winning run.

“We executed extremely well in the eighth, and that’s what you like to see,” Napavine coach Chad Williams said. “Cortney, I’m proud of her, she had a great bunt. Solana hit the ball to the right side which is exactly what you wanted to do. As a coach, I could not have asked for better executed plays.”

The Tigers and Loggers have played a pair of close games this season, and Williams was happy to escape with a win.

“We did well. We played well as a team. It was warmer than it’s been all year, and the girls stayed hydrated and their spirits were up,” Williams said. “Ony played well. Amy kept us off balance, and we didn’t hit anything really hard. I thought Amy did a good job for them.”

Napavine (13-1, 12-1) hosts Morton-White Pass on Saturday in a C2BL doubleheader.
