Wednesday's 2B Boys Basketball: Pirates Thwart Cardinals

WINLOCK — Winlock kept up with Adna for most of the game, but the Pirates pulled away in the second half to win 75-45 in a Central 2B League boys basketball game here on Wednesday.

Adna’s Lyle Metzenberg led all scorers with 23 points and added 20 rebounds. Cody Young scored 14, Trevor Thornburg added 13 and Blake Davis was the other Pirate in double figures with 11.

Winlock was led by Nicholas Patching with 14 points and Carter Whitehead chipped in 12 points.

The Pirates led 32-24 at halftime, but outscored Winlock 43-21 after the break.

Adna shot 41 percent from the field, while Winlock shot 29 percent.

“We were hanging around for a while. We just couldn’t quite get over the hump,” Winlock coach Nick Bamer said. “They went on a run to get to 20, and then we shut down. I thought we competed well. They’re a pretty good team.”

Adna (13-1, 9-1 league) hosts Wahkiakum on Friday while Winlock (9-5, 6-5 league) travels to Pe Ell on Friday for a C2BL contest.

Pe Ell Falls to Toutle Lake

TOUTLE — Toutle Lake dominated the second half against Pe Ell to earn a 73-34 win in a Central 2B League boys basketball game here on Wednesday.

Pe Ell was led by the 9 points of Garrett Bush. Kobe Hoffman added 8.

Toutle Lake had three players score in double figures, led by Cam Swanson with 20.

The Ducks led 16-6 after the first quarter and pushed the advantage to 37-17 at halftime.

“I didn’t think we played that poorly. The effort was good but the turnovers killed us, and rebounds killed us,” Pe Ell coach Chris Fitzgerald said. “If you’re going to compete with a good team, you’ve got to be able to score.”

Fitzgerald added that Bush and Ryan Shepherd played well.

Pe Ell (1-12, 0-10 league) hosts Winlock on Friday in a C2BL game.

Mossyrock Can’t Catch Rainier

MOSSYROCK — Rainier had 10 players score to help the Mountaineers win, 62-45, over Mossyrock in a Central 2B League boys basketball game here on Wednesday.

Evan Gootgeld led the Vikings with 19 points. Lucas Johnson added 13 points and Evan Gootgeld scored 11.

Rainier was led by Jeffrey Ashby’s 16 points.

The Vikings led 14-12 after the first quarter, but managed just 7 points in the second quarter to allow Rainier a 30-21 lead at halftime.



“The effort was wonderful. The kids played great and the defense other than situations where we didn’t rotate and gave up 3s,” Mossyrock coach Jordan Hunter said. “We give up that many 3s in consecutive possessions, it makes the hole too deep to dig out of.”

Mossyrock (1-12, 1-9 league) travels to Napavine on Friday for a C2BL game.

Napavine Dominates Wahkiakum

CATHLAMET — Peyton Stanley led five Tigers in double figures in a 75-35 win over Wahkiakum in a Central 2B League boys basketball game here on Wednesday.

Stanley scored 18 points and Dawson Stanley added 15 points. Jordan Purvis recorded 13 points, Noah Lantz tallied 11 points and Cade Evander had 10 points and nine rebounds.

The Tigers jumped out to a 25-7 lead after the first quarter and expanded the advantage to 48-21 at halftime. It was more of the same in the second half, as Napavine outscored Wahkiakum 27-14.

Napavine (11-3, 8-2) hosts Mossyrock on Friday in a C2BL game.

MWP Heats Up in Second Half to Sink Chinooks

KALAMA — Morton-White Pass outscored Kalama 19-7 in the third quarter to break a halftime tie, and held on the rest of the way for a 53-33 win here Wednesday in Central 2B League boys basketball action.

Matt Poquette scored 18 points with eight rebounds and seven assists, and Tristan Storey added 14 points for MWP.

“Nothing came easy for us, but defensively we got a lot better in the second half,” MWP coach Tony Gillispie said. “We challenged every possession and got hands in the passing lane, and mixed things around on the offensive end.”

Kade Gillispie added 10 points, and Kaleb Rashoff grabbed nine rebounds for the Timberwolves. Max Ross and Alex Dyer each scored 10 for Kalama.

Morton-White Pass (11-3, 8-2 league) hosts Toutle Lake on Friday in Morton.

Toledo Works Past Onalaska

TOLEDO — Nine players scored, and none hit double figures, as a balanced Toledo squad beat Onalaska, 47-29, here Wednesday in C2BL boys hoops action.

Brian Wood led Toledo with 9 points. Junior Arroyo added 8 points and 11 rebounds.

“Nearly everybody scored, and everybody contributed,” Toledo coach Grady Fallon said.

Toledo led 28-15 at halftime, and shot 18 of 43 (42 percent) from the field.

Alex Frazier led Onalaska with 11 points.

Toledo (12-2, 9-1 league) plays at Rainier on Friday. Onalaska (4-10, 2-8 league) hosts Kalama on Friday.
