W.F. West needed four sets to defeat Aberdeen on Tuesday, defeating the Bobcats 3-1 in Evergreen 2A Conference action in Chehalis.

W.F. West started off strong with a 25-15 first set, and kept the momentum going with a 25-12 second set. Aberdeen battled back in the third set, winning it in extra points, 27-25. But the Bearcats regrouped and dominated the fourth set, 25-12.

“We’re trying some different lineups, trying to get our most effective hitters getting more touches on the ball,” W.F. West coach Emily Damschen said. “Because of that, we’re going to be trying out some different lineups. Still, I think they did a really good job, it shows their mental strength. We drop a set to them, but then you come back and rally and play with a little more fire in their bellies.”

Makenzie Moore had 18 kills and four aces, while Shasta Lofgren added 17 assists. Jordan Crawford had 32 digs.

“What I liked about tonight is our setters, we have some younger setters, we talked before the game about not spreading the offense, if somebody is hot, feed them,” Damschen said.

W.F. West (4-8, 3-4) hosts Rochester on Thursday in a league matchup.
