TOLEDO — It took just three games for Toledo to down Adna here on Tuesday with set scores of 25-18, 25-15 and 25-23 to secure the Central 2B League volleyball victory.
Toledo coach Candace Maier was pleased with the way her team turned the tables after a three game losing streak ended a perfect start to their season.
“We’ve had a little (losing) streak and I was worried when we were going to come out of it, but they did,” said Maier. “We’ve played some pretty good teams and I think it got our confidence down a little bit.”
That confidence came back in a big way against Adna. Emma Cline-Maier set the tone for Toledo with seven kills and eight assists while Brynn Williams added 10 assists and seven digs. Stacie Spahr added seven kills in the win while Haleigh Holmes tallied five kills.
“I think they just started passing better so we were getting better passes to the net. Just the basics really, we started serving well,” added Maier after the win.
Maier noted that both Rylie Pliler and Gracie Madill played exceptional defense on serve-receive.
Toledo (9-3, 5-3 league) will play at Onalaska on Thursday.
Acorns Walloped by Wishkah
OAKVILLE — Wishkah was able to nab a 1B Coastal League volleyball win here Tuesday with set scores of 25-4, 25-8 and 25-9 over the Acorns.
Oakville coach Shawna Howe was at a loss for stats after the game but came away impressed with the effort of at least one Acorn.
“Haley Davis worked really hard tonight and she had some pretty cool plays,” said Howe. “The big thing would be that we need to keep communicating and moving our feet so we can get to the ball.”
Oakville (0-8 league) is at Mary M. Knight on Thursday.
T-Wolves Take It To Cardinals
WINLOCK — Morton-White Pass needed just three sets to down Winlock here on Tuesday with set scores of 25-19, 25-12 and 26-24 to lock in the Central 2B League volleyball victory.
Katie Salguero played well up front with a dozen kills and three blocks while Shaylee Peters added 10 kills and three blocks. Chloe Kelly added 22 assists and three kills while Emarey Hampton notched seven aces.
MWP coach Tammy Kelly made sure to point out the play of Emmalee Hazen as well.
“She gave us a little spark with her passing on defense,” noted Kelly.
With their first win of the year under their belt, Kelly was optimistic that her team’s hard work is starting to payoff.
“They were able to play a lot more consistent tonight,” Kelly said. “Of course we were happy to get the win. Hopefully they can ride that momentum through the end of the season.”
MWP (1-10, 1-6 league) will play Napavine in Randle on Thursday.
Black Hills Sweeps Centralia
The Tigers battled with Black Hills in each set but ultimately lost in a sweep in an Evergreen 2A Conference volleyball match on Tuesday in Centralia.
Black Hills won with set scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-21.
Madison Stoeckler served 11 of 11 with 17 assists and nine digs and Jadyn Hawley served 7 of 7 with 11 digs. Kennedy Strophy served 14 of 15 with five aces and seven kills, Kylie Sharp tallied 11 digs and Madelinn Corwin chipped in five kills for the Tigers.
Centralia coach Marti Smith was pleased with her team continuing to battle after going down 9-1 in the second set. She did note the Tigers had an 18-9 lead in the third set but too many hitting errors allowed the Wolves to come back and complete the sweep.
“We lost focus on serve receive and had too many hitting errors to let Black Hills come back. We were able to prove to ourselves we are able to play with those top teams,” Smith said. “We just need to find consistency against those top teams. You can’t ever let up on any point against those teams. We can play with them but you have to go out and fight for each point.”
Smith commended swing players Tatum Johnston, Peyton Smith and Serina Stehr for coming into the match and playing well.
Centralia (5-6, 4-3) hits the road to take on Rochester on Thursday.
Rochester Falls to Tumwater
TUMWATER — Rochester was able to win the third set but Tumwater was able to close out the match in four sets in an Evergreen 2A Conference volleyball match here on Tussday.
Tumwater won the first two sets, 25-7 and 25-16. Rochester took the third set, 25-22, before the T-Birds bounced back with a 25-9 fourth set win to end the match.
Emily Morris had seven kills and 21 digs and Lexie Sederberg added 20 digs, five kills and three stuff blocks. Bethany Hawes tallied 19 assists and one kill for the Warriors.
“We want to remember our third game, we put everything together and played as a team,” Rochester coach Wendy Hawes said.
Rochester (5-7, 1-6) hosts Centralia on Thursday.
Napavine Defeats Onalaska in Four
The Tigers and Loggers fought hard here on Tuesday, with Napavine prevailing 3-1 in a Central 2B League volleyball match.
Onalaska won the first set, 25-22. It was all Napavine after that, with set scores of 25-22, 28-26 and 25-21.
Haily Murray served 100 percent with 17 kills and Vannie Fagerness also served 100 percent with 14 digs. Skyla Ettner served 100 percent and had strong net play and Sydney Purvis tallied 17 kills and 14 digs. Madilyn Harrolle recorded 14 assists and nine digs and Jordan Gernie-Wilson had 15 assists for the Tigers.
“It started off rocky but they really dug in and got determined and really focused to win. They started playing smarter which we’ve really been harping on them to do this year,” Napavine coach Monica Daily said. “I was super proud of my captains (Murray, Purvis, Fagerness) for stepping up and really demanding excellence from our team tonight. They really wanted to win and they pulled the team around to do that.”
Onalaska’s Carmen Cleveland-Barrera had 13 kills and five blocks and Eryn Duryea tallied 13 kills. Dakotah Fuller recorded 10 kills and eight blocks, Morgan Hamilton recorded eight kills and Sophia Leal served 20 of 21.
“We played pretty well in the first set and then Napavine made some changes in their offense and we just didn’t respond to their changes and they just capitalized on those,” Onalaska coach Terri Dalsted said.
Napavine (7-5, 3-5) is in Randle on Thursday to face Morton-White Pass while Onalaska (6-5, 4-3) hosts Toledo on Thursday.
