NAPAVINE — Ada Williams swung the boomstick at the plate and threw heat in the circle to lead Napavine to a 12-7 win over Tenino in a non-league softball game here on Tuesday.

Williams pitched five innings and struck out 10 batters while allowing four runs. At the plate, she was 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI’s. Jordan Wilson, in her first career varsity softball game, was 3-for-3 with a double and Karli Pablo was 2-for-3 with a triple.

Tenino’s Bailey Greene was 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs and a steal and Cassandra Cross added a hit, run and RBI.

Cassie Cannon pitched the first four innings for Tenino and struck out six batters. Emily Baxter came on in relief and threw the final two innings with three strikeouts.

The Beavers came out strong and led 3-2 after one inning, but Napavine tallied five runs in the second inning to take a 7-3 lead. Tenino tried to close the gap in the fourth inning with two runs, but was answered in the bottom of the fourth with three more runs by the Tigers for a 10-5 lead. Napavine plated two more runs in the sixth to secure the win.

“Honestly, as young as we are, I’m extremely happy with our effort. We’re still making some boneheaded plays but that’s to be expected. It was a great first game,” Napavine coach Chad Williams said. “I can’t ask for anymore, we scored 12 runs. That was outstanding considering the kids we graduated last year.”

Napavine (1-0) hosts Winlock on Friday in a Central 2B League contest while Tenino (0-1) hosts Rochester on Thursday in a non-league game.
