Bearcats Keep Bobcats at Bay

Aberdeen tallied 10 hits here Tuesday but the Bearcats defense came up big to hold on for a 10-3 victory in Evergreen 2A Conference softball action.

Kamy Dacus struck out eight batters in a complete game performance but it was her defense that stole the show for one night.

W.F. West coach Caty Lieseke noted that Aberdeen had runners on base in all but one inning. She added that Taylor Barker made several clutch snares in centerfield that helped to keep the Bobcats offense in check.

“They are a disciplined ball club. They come out with a game plan and they put that into action in a big way. Our defense came up huge to limit the damage,” said Lieseke.

W.F. West led from start to finish with a run in both the first and second inning before hanging a seven on the scoreboard in the third frame. The Bearcats added one run in their final at bat for good measure.

Lieseke said it was a patient day at the plate for her ballclub. Paetynn Lopez collected three hits on the day, including a triple, when she wasn’t catching. Annika Waring added a pair of hits and a RBI while Ava Fugate totaled two hits and two RBI.

“We had girls that had solid contact on the ball that the defense stopped,” Lieseke said. “Next time I think we’re going to come out swing the bat the same way but more balls will drop.”

W.F. West (9-0, 4-0 league) will play at Centralia on Thursday.

“Porter really stepped up at the plate and behind the plate. She stood out,” Centralia coach David Orr said. “Ella Orr, she hit the ball well, scored some runs. That was the difference, those two girls were the difference.”

Also having a solid day at the plate was Kylie Sharp, going 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and three RBI. Sophie Duffy was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs. Jadyn Hawley and Courtney Spriggs each had two hits and Kally Conaway added a double for the Tigers.

“The top of my lineup is starting to hit so that’s great. We made a few errors we need to clean up,” Orr said. “I’m proud of the girls, they had a long break. It was good to get back on the field and we’re ready to rock.”

Centralia (4-3, 2-2) hosts W.F. West on Thursday in a Swamp Cup showdown.

Rochester Falls to Tumwater

ROCHESTER — Tumwater scored five runs in the fourth inning to secure a 6-1 win over Rochester in a Evergreen 2A Conference softball game here on Tuesday.

Delaney Glazer went the distance in the circle and struck out seven batters while walking three.

Lakota Escott scored the lone run for Rochester with a solo home run in the third inning. Lexie Trombley, Madison Bates, Faith Kennedy and Glazer each had a hit for the Warriors.

Tumwater and Rochester each scored a run in the third inning but the Thunderbirds plated five runs in the fourth inning to secure the win.

“For the most part, we played pretty well. We had a few opportunities where we had runners in scoring position and couldn’t get them around,” Rochester coach Dave Montgomery said. “We had several batters hit the ball well, just right at fielders. That’s how it goes sometimes. Defensively, we were rock solid and Glazer was good in the circle again minus the one big inning. A lot of positives to take away from this.”

Rochester (4-4, 1-3) travels to Aberdeen on Thursday for a EvCo game.
