Tuesday's Prep Girls Soccer: Tenino Triples Up Spanaway Lake

TENINO — Tenino’s Brieanna Dell scored six goals to lead the Beavers to a 9-3 win in the opening game of the season in a non-league girls soccer game against Spanaway Lake here on Tuesday.

Dell started the scoring in the 3rd minute on an assist from Maddi Hohner. Spanaway Lake tied the game in the 6th minute with a goal by Regina Garay.

Dell answered back with a goal in the 9th minute to retake the lead, but the Sentinels tied the game in the 12th minute with Garay’s second goal of the night.

In the 29th minute, Dell completed the hat trick with an assist from Courtney Dodge and added one more goal before halftime in the 32nd minute with an assist from Megan Letts for a 4-2 halftime advantage.

It was more of the same to start the second half as Dell scored again in the 43rd minute with an assist from Lara Kershaw. Spanaway Lake scored in the 56th minute with a goal from Ky Rice.

Grace Vestal scored for the Beavers in the 60th minute and Morgan Miner scored in the 68th minute with an assist by Abby Severse.

Dell added her final goal of the night in the 74th minute with an assist from Dodge and Miner recorded her second goal of the night in the 77th minute with an assist from Vestal.

“I was really pleased with how we played. We did the things we’ve been talking about, keep the ball, moving the ball, creating good attacking chances,” Tenino coach Kevin Schultz said. “Brieanna, she was assisted by four different players. The assists by a lot of different people, everyone on our team really contributes offensively.”

Tenino (1-0) hosts Rochester on Thursday in a non-league game.

Note: Tenino had a JV girls soccer team for the first time in four years, earning a 7-1 win.

Napavine Trounces Toutle Lake

TOUTLE — Sydney Burdick scored four goals for Napavine as the Tigers earned a 7-0 win over Toutle Lake in the Central 2B League girls soccer season opener.

Burdick started the scoring in the second minute and added another goal in the seventh minute with an assist from Pope. Burdick completed the hat trick in the 15th minute.



Chloe Stewart scored for the Tigers in the 22nd minute and Burdick scored her fourth goal of the night in the 25th minute for a 5-0 lead at halftime.

Toutle Lake scored an own goal in the second half and Pope scored in the 58th minute for the final tally of the night.

“I was very proud of them. We had a little bit of a rough start from the jamboree,” Napavine coach Emily Boettcher said. “We talked about two things, passing and line runs. They did just that so I was very pleased.”

Boettcher was impressed with the performance of Burdick.

“I’m always impressed, that’s typical Sydney,” Boettcher said. “She was our leading scorer last season. It was quite an impressive start, she’s a go getter and she has a lot of speed.”

Boettcher also commended the play of Lela Stewart in goal with several saves and Gabby Garcia for peppering Toutle Lake with shots on net.

Napavine (1-0) hosts Adna on Thursday in a league game.

Onalaska Tops Winlock in Opener

WINLOCK — The Lady Loggers started their season off with a win, defeating Winlock 3-0 in a Central 2B League girls soccer game here on Tuesday.

Onalaska scored a goal in the 39th minute for a 1-0 lead at intermission. The Loggers added two more goals in the second half to put the game away.

The game was closer than the scoreboard would indicate, although Winlock coach Brian Ziese said his team has some work to do.

“We’re very inexperienced. We’re still trying to figure out where people need to play,” Ziese said. “The kids came out and played their best, played hard. Our defense is pretty much gone from last year so that’s our biggest learning curve from last year.”

Onalaska (1-0) travels to Ocosta on Thursday while Winlock (0-1) heads to Kalama for a league match.

Note: Ocosta defeated Toledo 3-0 in Toledo.
