Tuesday's Boys Soccer: Guzman’s Goal Lifts W.F. West Past Rochester

ROCHESTER — W.F. West’s Edward Guzman scored the golden goal in extra time to help the Bearcats defeat Rochester 2-1 in an Evergreen 2A Conference boys soccer game here on Tuesday.

The Bearcats scored first on a goal from Christian Mathuzima. Rochester answered in the second half with a goal from Manuel Baires-Morales to tie the game, but Guzman’s goal in the extra frame ended the game.

W.F. West outshot Rochester 21-12.

“It was a good game. They played really well and left everything on the field,” W.F. West coach Tino Sanchez said.

W.F. West (2-8-1, 2-6) hosts Tumwater on Thursday while Rochester (1-13, 0-8) travels to Tumwater on Thursday to face Black Hills in an EvCo game.

United, Columbia-White Salmon Play to 1-1 Draw

WHITE SALMON — United and Columbia-White Salmon each scored a goal in the second half to play to a 1-1 draw in a 1A Trico League boys soccer game here on Tuesday.



With the tie, United holds a half game lead for the league title with three games to play.

“If we win out with those three games, we’ll be in first. These next games are critical,” United coach Horst Malunat said.

Andreas Malunat scored first in the 51st minute on a direct free kick for a 1-0 lead. Columbia-White Salmon tied the game on a goal in the 60th minute.

Alan Contreras made eight saves for United.

“Going on the road and playing, I’m not happy with a tie but I’ll take it,” Malunat said. “It was tough, it was a battle.”

United (7-4-2, 7-1-1) travels to Vancouver on Thursday to face King’s Way Christian in a Trico league game.
