MOSSYROCK — The Morton-White Pass defense suffocated Mossyrock here on Tuesday in an 83-25 non-league boys basketball game.

Hayden Young led the T-Wolves with 14 points and seven rebounds. Gary Dotson and Tyler Blake each added 12 points and Keegan Kelly scored 10 points. Layten Collette recorded nine points and seven rebounds and Josh Salguero added seven rebounds.

Gunner Mulligan scored nine points and Keegan Kolb chipped in eight points for the Vikings.

Mossyrock made just seven field goals. MWP dominated the glass, 59-25.

“We just came out and tried to get a lot of pressure on the ball, jump in the passing lanes, and we were able to turn them over a little bit and get out in transition,” MWP coach Chad Cramer said. “I thought we wound up really really balanced. That’s probably what I was most pleased with. I thought we had some synergy on defense and some balance on offense. When we do that, I think we become a little bit better team.”

MWP led 19-2 after one quarter and kept the momentum going with a 42-11 lead at halftime.

MWP (3-0) travels to Adna on Thursday in a non-league game while Mossyrock (1-1) hosts Tenino next Tuesday.

Napavine Nullifies North River

NAPAVINE — The Tigers were able to figure out their defense after a shaky start to their season here on Tuesday as they downed North River 71-39 in non-league boys basketball action.

Napavine held just a 16-15 advantage after one quarter of play against the Mustangs but limited the visitors to just eight points in each of the next three quarters to earn the win.

Napavine coach Rex Stanley said it was a decent first run after getting a late start on the season due to a semifinal run by the football team.

“We’re five days in so we’re getting there. It’s nice to get an early game in against a true non-conference opponent compared to what we’ve done in the past,” explained Stanley. “I think the hardest thing is just the conditioning. It’s just a different type of thing going from football to basketball. It definitely takes more than a week for guys who probably haven't touched a basketball since June.”

Laythan Demarest scored a game-high 20 points for the Tigers.

“Demarest came out and shot fairly well for the first game, especially being one of those football guys. He hit six 3’s and that’s going to be big for us if he can hit shots,” said Stanley.

The Tigers helped their cause by beating North River 38-20 in the rebound battle.

Cade Evander added 14 points for the winners, while Keith Olson chipped in 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Napavine (1-0) will play Mount Vernon Christian on Friday at 7 p.m.

W.F. West led 13-6 after one quarter and carried a 23-17 lead into halftime. The Bearcats put the game away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Hilanders 20-7.

W.F. West (2-1) hosts Kalama on Thursday in a non-league game.
