RAINIER — The Tigers clawed their way to victory with a 3-1 win over Rainier in a Central 2B League volleyball match here Thursday night with set scores of 25-21, 16-25, 25-23 and 25-20.
Jordan Gernie-Wilson, Vannie Fagerness, and Trinket Ettner all had perfect serving with Wilson racking up six aces on the night. Joie and Madilyn Harrolle put up a heavy defense as Haily Murray put up 15 kills with four stuff blocks and Sydney Purvis added 12 kills
“We came with a lot of energy tonight and the team stayed really focused,” said Napavine coach Monica Dailey. “They played really well together and we were able to keep the energy up so I’m proud of them for that and we’re excited to get the win.”
Napavine (6-6, 2-6) travels to Adna for the Adna Invitational Tournament on Saturday.
Tumwater Sweeps W.F. West
Tumwater was too much for the Bearcats in Chehalis on Thursday, earning a sweep with set scores of 25-19, 25-10 and 25-14 in an Evergreen 2A Conference volleyball match.
Ava Olsen and Payge Crawford each served 100 percent and Anna White had two blocks. Ashlyn Whalen led W.F. West with 12 digs and Paytton Crawford added 11 digs.
“We looked really good defensively. We knew that going into the game that Tumwater is going to be tough. When you play tough teams, you get challenged and we were able to see where we are defensively,” W.F. West coach Emily Mora said. “We just addressed that our offense needs to start finding some fluidity. Our defense looks really good. They’re working hard, covering a lot of court and going for everything. As a coach, I can’t ask more of a defense. Our offense struggled to find our rhythm.”
W.F. West (2-8, 2-4) travels to Aberdeen on Wednesday before hosting Black Hills on Thursday.
Mossyrock Cruises Past Onalaska
MOSSYROCK — The Vikings had another solid team performance in a 3-0 sweep of Onalaska in a Central 2B League volleyball match here on Thursday.
Mossyrock won with set scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-23. Hailey Brooks had a solid serving run, including nine aces and was 16 of 18 total from the service stripe.
Morgan Houghtelling served 19 of 20 with two aces and 21 assists and Jenny Brockway served 10 of 10. Faith Mulligan added a solid night on defense with 12 digs and Amy Fitzhugh had 11 digs. Andee Nelson tallied 12 kills and Payton Torrey chipped in five kills. The Vikings had 10 different players record a kill.
“We got to get the bench in again tonight. That last set was close, but they pulled through and finished it out in a pressure situation,” Mossyrock coach Alex Nelsons said. “I’m proud of them getting it done in the third set. I’m really proud of all the contributors tonight I always tell my girls this, I have a couple starting lineups. We have a lot of great players, I’m proud of all of them.”
Onalaska’s Eryn Duryea served 10 of 10 with seven kills and 30 digs. Dakotah Fuller served 13 of 13 with four kills and eight blocks.
Raelee Holmes was 5 of 5 serving and Carmen Cleveland-Barrera had three kills and six blocks. Hannah James tallied three kills for the Loggers.
“Mossyrock is a really good team. I know our girls did better than when we played them the first time,” Onalaska coach Terri Dalsted said. “I’m proud they were able to do that. We lacked perseverance, that’s something that when we play good teams, that’s something that we need to work on.”
Mossyrock (9-1, 7-0) and Onalaska (6-4, 4-2) will be in Adna on Saturday for the Adna Invitational Tournament.
Pe Ell Tops Life Christian in Four
PE ELL — The Trojans lost the first set but battled back to earn a 3-1 win against Life Christian in a Pacific 2B League volleyball match here on Thursday.
Pe Ell won with set scores of 25-27, 25-22, 25-16 and 25-18.
Claire Cleveland and Presley Peterson led the Trojans in kills.
“Presley (Peterson) had fantastic defense. All around, it was a really great game for our girls,” Pe Ell coach Karie Cleveland said. “They put some things together that we’ve been working on lately. It was a great display for us for sure, I’m super proud of my girls today.”
Pe Ell (3-7, 2-3) will be in Menlo on Tuesday to face Willapa Valley.
