Thursday's Prep Volleyball: Mossyrock Sweeps Morton-White Pass

MOSSYROCK — The Vikings opened the Central 2B League schedule with a 3-0 win over Morton-White Pass here on Thursday.

Mossyrock won with set scores of 25-16, 25-23 and 25-17.

Faith Mulligan served 17 of 18 with two aces and 15 digs and Shania Hadaller was 12 of 14 serving with two aces and 27 assists.

“Faith had another great night for us,” said Mossyrock coach Alex Nelson. “She just had a great passing night. Several digs covering the floor all over the place. She had 12 on target passes on serve receive and ended up with four kills, so just solid all around.”

Morgan Houghtelling served 100 percent with six kills and Amy Fitzhugh also served 100 percent for the Vikings.

“It was a good competitive game. Against Mossyrock and Morton-White Pass that’s always the case. Very good energy tonight. You know, MWP has improved a lot since we saw them in the jamboree.”

MWP’s Katie Salguero recorded eight kills and Taylor Nilius added seven kills and two blocks. Carly King tallied 15 assists and four blocks for the T-Wolves.

Mossyrock (3-2, 1-0) will travel to Toutle Lake on Tuesday while MWP (3-2, 0-1) hosts Wahkiakum in Randle on Tuesday in a C2BL match.

Chinooks Dominate Pirates

ADNA — Kalama came to Adna on Thursday and left with a clean sweep over the Pirates in a Central 2B League volleyball match.

Kalama won with set scores of 25-14, 25-12 and 25-10.

“We were not consistent today. Kalama pretty much set the pace and we just played catch up most of the night,” Adna coach Wendie Dotson said. “It was not one of our better showings. They are a very put together team, pretty much took it to us.”

Adna (0-5, 0-1) travels to Napavine on Tuesday for a C2BL match.

Napavine Makes Quick Work of Winlock

WINLOCK — The Tigers didn’t waste any time in dispatching Winlock 3-0 in a Central 2B League volleyball match here on Thursday.

Napavine won with set scores of 25-15, 25-6 and 25-11.

Olivia Alegria had 18 digs and Sydney Purvis added six kills and five digs. Riley Beeson added five digs and Jesse Lee recorded four kills for Napavine.

“I felt they played well. The whole match they played well but we struggled serving tonight. We’ve been doing that lately, it’s not normal for us. We missed 12 serves tonight, we’ll get that figured out,” Napavine coach Monica Dailey said. “Other than that, girls stayed intense. We worked on playing our tempo and we had great hitting tonight from everybody. I was able to give the younger girls some quality playing time.”

Napavine (5-0, 1-0) hosts Adna on Tuesday while Winlock (3-4, 0-1) hits the road to face Toledo on Tuesday in a C2BL contest.

Centralia Falls to Hoquiam in Five Sets

HOQUIAM — Hoquiam and Centralia needed five sets to settle a non-league volleyball match here on Thursday, with the Grizzlies prevailing 3-2.



Hoquiam won the first two sets with scores of 25-12 and 25-14. Centralia dug deep and won the next two sets 25-21 and 25-20 to force a fifth set. The Grizzlies held strong and won 15-9 to win the match.

Centralia’s Danika Jensen had eight kills, 11 digs and served 100 percent and Kylie Sharp recorded 15 digs and served 16 of 17.

Hannah Porter was also 16 of 17 serving with seven kills, Kennedy Strophy added seven kills and Jaelyn Friberg tallied 20 assists for the Tigers.

“We obviously got off to a slow start. We just had a hard time finding rhythm in those first two sets,” Centralia coach Marti Smith said. “We made a couple rotation changes, we got a spark from our bench with a couple players from JV swing up to play a couple sets.”

Smith noted the play of Maddie Corwin providing a spark for the Tigers in the second and third sets, bringing crucial energy to help start the comeback.

Smith also mentioned Lily Miller, bringing some good energy in the fourth and fifth set with a couple blocks.

Centralia (0-4) travels to Aberdeen on Tuesday for the opening Evergreen 2A Conference match of the season.

Rochester Outlasts Forks

ROCHESTER — The Warriors won the first two sets and looked to sweep the Forks, but the Spartans pushed the match to five sets with Rochester ultimately prevailing 3-2 in a non-league volleyball match here on Thursday.

Rochester won the first two sets with scores of 25-17 and 25-14. Forks bounced back with wins in the next two sets, 25-19 and 25-17.

It was all Warriors in the fifth set, including Paige Winter recording 10 straight points at the service line with two aces for a 15-4 fifth set win.

Winter finished with five aces and seven kills and Emily Morris added seven kills and 16 digs.

“We played really well the first couple games, just got comfortable. Forks did a good job keeping the ball in and we made some key errors in the third game,” Rochester’s Wendy Hawes said. “I’m happy to end our non-league season with a win.”

Rochester (4-1) travels to Black Hills on Tuesday for the opening EvCo match of the season.

Oakville Squeaks Past Crescent

OAKVILLE — Oakville and Crescent needed five sets to determine a winner with the Acorns prevailing 3-2 for their first win of the season in a 1B Coastal League game here on Thursday.

The Acorns took the first two sets with scores of 25-16 and 25-11. Crescent responded by winning the next two sets, 25-15 and 25-18. Oakville was able to persevere and take the fifth set, 15-13.

Alexis Starr-Wright had nine aces and two kills and Joanna Kukhar added four aces and five kills. Shelby Petty contributed six aces for Oakville.

“I couldn’t be more proud of them tonight. They have responded to each challenge every time we put something in front of them,” Oakville coach Jessica Spitzer said. “The crowd kept them up, it was really nice.”

Oakville (1-3) hosts Chief Kitsap on Tuesday in a league match.
