Aberdeen was able to outlast Centralia in five sets here on Ron Brown Court here Thursday in a 2A Evergreen Conference showdown.
The first three sets featured identical scores of 25-22, with Aberdeen taking the first and third rounds. Centralia bounced back to claim a 25-17 victory in the fourth set before Aberdeen clinched the game with a 15-11 victory in the final set.
“We knew it was going to be a battle with them. The main thing that I’m really proud of is how much better we played than the last time we played them up at their place,” said Centralia coach Marti Smith. “We knew we were capable of much more than that and the girls just left it all out on the floor. I’m very proud of their effort tonight.”
Those Tigers efforts were led by Danika Jensen who finished with nine kills, seven digs, and a near perfect effort from the service stripe. Centralia’s libero, Kylie Sharp, dished out 24 digs while Hannah Porter turned in six kills. Jaelyn Friberg added 27 assists for Centralia along with a perfect mark on 19 serves. Jayden Hawley also had a perfect night on 13 tries at the service stripe for the Tigers, while Hailey Brann contributed six kills.
“Everyone contributed tonight. There were several players who played very well even if they don’t show up in the stats,” said Smith.
The first year coach was particularly impressed by Brann’s play at the net including blocking, hitting and hustle plays, noting that it was her best match of the season.
“It’s just another one that hurts for the girls because they are fighting so hard to pick up that fist win and we really thought that we had it tonight,” noted Smith. “It was a great match for spectators. That’s for sure.”
Centralia (0-9, 0-5 league) will play at Black Hills on Tuesday.
Tumwater Washes Out W.F. West
TUMWATER – W.F. West went down in straight sets here Thursday against a formidable T-Bird squad in 2A Evergreen Conference volleyball play.
While the T-Birds were never in danger of dropping a set on their home court the Bearcats were able to improve their scores throughout the night. Those sets were decided by scores of 25-12, 25-16, and 25-18.
“We weren’t ready to go and it’s tough when you miss six serves on the night. It’s hard to get momentum when you get the ball back and then you miss a serve. It’s hard to build on that,” lamented W.F. West coach Emily Mora.
Ashlyn Whalen turned in 15 digs for the Bearcats in the losing effort while, Megan Pallas had 8 kills and two aces, and Paytton Crawford handed out 13 assists.
“We just didn’t play our best. So I know that we are going to go in and use it to get some fuel going into next week and get some momentum going,” added Mora.
W.F. West (8-2, 4-2 league) will host Aberdeen on Tuesday.
Black Hills Sweeps Rochester
ROCHESTER — Black Hills made quick work of the Warriors here on Thursday, as the Wolves cruised to a 3-0 win in an Evergreen 2A Conference volleyball match.
The Wolves won with set scores of 25-13, 15-15 and 25-13.
Lexie Jones-Sederberg had nine kills and 13 digs and Jasmine Esparza-Klatush recorded 14 digs for the Warriors. Paige Winter added two stuff blocks.
“The scores don’t show how well we played defense. We made our own errors with hitting and simple stuff,” Rochester coach Wendy Hawes said. “As far as digging their hits, we did a good job of that. Our hitting wasn’t as sharp as it could be.”
Rochester (6-5, 2-4) hosts Tumwater on Tuesday in an EvCo match.

Adna Earns First Win of Season Over Winlock
ADNA — The Lady Pirates earned their first win of the season here on Thursday, defeating Winlock 3-0 in a Central 2B League volleyball match.
Adna won with set scores of 25-10, 25-15 and 25-14.
Alyssa Davis had four aces and Cheyann Meyer also had four aces and two kills. Faith Wellander recorded seven kills and Adison Stewart chipped in six kills.
Adna coach Wendie Dotson complimented the setting by Ruby Bower and Haley Rainey.
Adna (1-9, 1-5) hosts Toledo on Tuesday in a C2BL game.
Toledo Falls to Wahkiakum
TOLEDO — The Mules were too much for Toledo here on Thursday, earning a 3-0 win in a Central 2B League volleyball match.
Wahkiakum won with set scores of 25-21, 25-13 and 25-19.
Toledo’s Kendle Odom had eight points on serves with no errors. Kate Demery tallied four kills, Rylie Pliler had three kills and Kyleigh Holmes added three kills. Emma Cline-Maier led the Indians with 14 assists.
“They played OK. I’ve seen them play together better,” Toledo coach Candace Maier said. “I’d like to see them get back to that. They worked hard but it wasn’t clicking as much as it did before.”
Toledo (3-8, 1-6) travels to Adna on Tuesday in a C2BL match.
Vikings Pillage Onalaska
ONALASKA – Mossyrock made quick work of the Loggers here Thursday night as they dispatched the home team in straight sets by scores of 25-6, 25-19, and 25-15.
“We just couldn’t get any momentum going,” explained Onalaska coach Terri Dalsted. “We just played flat and couldn’t get the girls to talk. We couldn’t get any energy and that’s something that we’ve been working on all season.”
Olivia Mitten managed 23 digs for the Loggers to go along with a perfect night of serving and nine kills. Eryn Duryea added 24 digs and 10 kills to the muted Onalaska effort.
“I feel like we’ve got a lot of talent to work with here in the end of the season as long as we can get that figured out,” added Dalsted.
Onalaska (4-6, 3-3 league) will host Napavine on Tuesday. Mossyrock (8-3, 6-1 league) will host Adna next Thursday.
Mountaineers Fall Flat in the City on the Hill
NAPAVINE – The Tigers dropped Rainier in straight sets here Thursday night in a bout of Central 2B League volleyball action. Napavine took the game with set scores of 25-20, 25-9, and 25-13.
“We started off a little slow, that was that 25-20 game. We trailed a little bit in that game but then they started to figure things out,” said Napavine coach Monica Dailey.
A strong effort from the service stripe helped to propel Napavine past Rainier as Ada Williams, Haily Murray and Rae Sisson were all perfect on their serves. Williams added 10 assists, Murray contributed 11 kills and Sisson piled up 12 digs. Olivia Woodrum added eight assists for Napavine while Olivia Alegria had 18 digs and, according to her coach, “played great on serve receive.”
Dailey added that freshman middle player Jesse Lee suffered a fracture to her leg during practice on Wednesday which forced some Tigers to play out of their normal positions.
“We had to shift some people around tonight so it took some time to get acclimated, but once they did they played really well and finished out strong,” said Dailey.
Dailey added that Maddison Doughty and Riley Beeson both played really well at the net.
Napavine (9-2, 5-2 league) will play at Onalaska on Tuesday.
