ROCHESTER — The Warriors scored 23 points in the first quarter to jump out to a commanding lead against Tenino en route to a 73-46 win in a Scatter Creek girls basketball showdown here on Thursday.

Lexie Sederberg-Jones scored 20 points and came up just short of a double-double with nine rebounds. Paige Winter tallied 19 points and added seven rebounds.

Tenino’s Ashley Schow and Alivia Hunter each scored 11 points.

The Warriors shot 39 percent from the field.

Rochester jumped out to a 23-7 lead after one quarter and piled on the lead for a 47-22 lead at halftime. The Warriors poured in 19 more points in the third quarter to pull away for the win.

“I thought we played really well. I was pleased with the entire team. We shared the ball a lot and got some minutes for other players which was good,” Rochester coach Davina Serdahl said. “We were very unselfish as a team. A lot of our scoring came from our defense, we were able to try to do some different things. We’ve still got work to do, I was definitely pleased with how well we played.”

Rochester (3-1) hosts Orting at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday in a non-league contest. Tenino (0-3) hosts Onalaska on Saturday.

Tigers Hunt Down Ducks

TOUTLE — The Tiger defense was too much for Toutle Lake here on Thursday as Napavine won 48-30 in a non-league girls basketball game.

Natalya Marcial led the Tigers with 12 points and five steals. Rae Sisson chipped in nine points and Chloe Stewart added eight points. Danielle Tupuola grabbed nine rebounds for Napavine.

Toutle Lake’s Keely Studebaker-Smith scored 13 points. Molly Donald and Kaydence King each recorded six points.

Napavine knocked down 63 percent of their shots from the charity stripe and won the rebounding battle, 38-26.

The Tigers led 15-9 in the first quarter and kept the momentum going to lead 27-15 at halftime. Toutle Lake won the third quarter, but Napavine’s defense held Toutle Lake to three points in the fourth quarter to lock up the win.

“We had balanced scoring tonight. We are continuing to improve everyday,” Napavine coach Shane Schutz said. “Rae (Sisson) and Vannie (Fagerness) did a great job of limiting (Jordyn) Grabenhorst to one point and (Molly) Donald to six points tonight.”

Napavine (1-2) is back in action on Friday at home at 6 p.m. against Mount Vernon Christian.
