RIDGEFIELD — The Bearcats struggled against the Spudders in a non-league boys tennis match here on Thursday as W.F. West fell 5-1.

W.F. West’s lone win came in the No. 3 doubles match, with Jacob Blomdahl and Christian Iverson defeating Nick Fabo and Micah Ross, 6-0, 6-4.

Mickey Nester and Ryan Gruber took down W.F. West’s Colin Slattery and Caleb Walters in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Ridgefield’s Jonah Kropp and Peyton Yager won in the top doubles match against Luke Walters and Gabe Cuestas, 7-6 (10-8), 6-2.

In singles, W.F. West’s Joseph Chung fell in the top singles match to Derek Kropp, 6-1, 6-1.

“Derek Kropp, he went to state last year in singles and made it to the second day,” W.F. West coach Jack State said. “Joseph (Chung) played pretty well against him. Derek has improved a lot since last year. Cade just didn’t play his normal game, he got away from what he wanted to do.”

Ridgefield’s Sam Borgmeyer earned the win in the No. 2 singles match against Cade Cameron, 6-4, 6-4. Nathan Neil made it a sweep for the Spudders in singles matches, defeating Jacob Moeckel, 6-0, 6-1.

“I got some things out of it. I think the kids were not happy with the way they played. Ridgefield is a good team,” State said.

W.F. West (1-1) travels to Eatonville on Tuesday for a non-league match.
