Thursday's Boys Basketball: Arceo-Hansen Leads Toledo Past Napavine

NAPAVINE — Fano Arceo-Hansen recorded a double-double to lead Toledo to a 67-44 win over Napavine in a non-league boys basketball game here on Thursday.

Arceo-Hansen scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Andreas Malunat chipped in 13 points and Hayden Farbo was also in double figures with 11 points.

Napavine’s Keith Olson had his own double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds in his third career varsity basketball game as a freshman. Dawson Stanley led the Tigers with 16 points.

Napavine had a 38-31 advantage on the glass, but Toledo shot better from the field (47 percent) and the free throw line (66 percent).

Toledo held a 15-11 lead after one quarter and kept it going to take a 31-21 lead into halftime. Napavine could never quite mount a comeback as Toledo outscored the Tigers 36-23 in the second half.

“We couldn’t get over the hump. We had too many stretches without buckets which put a lot of pressure on our defense,” Napavine coach Rex Stanley said. “Keith played great. His first double-double as a freshman in his third game. He’s just going to get better.”

Napavine (0-3) hosts Wahkiakum on Saturday in a Central 2B League game while Toledo (5-1) hosts Rainier on Saturday in a league contest.

Pirates Hot Shooting Downs Cardinals

ADNA — Adna shot 56 percent from the field to cruise to a 72-43 win over Winlock in a non-league boys basketball game here on Thursday.

Trevor Minkoff led all scorers with 14 points and Zander Blankenship added 11 points for the Pirates. Austen Apperson, Lyle Metzenberg and Cole Fay each tallied nine points.

Bryce Cline scored 11 points to lead Winlock.

The Pirates found their shooting touch against Winlock, shooting 50 percent from behind the arc as well as 56 percent from the field.

“It was a good one. Our energy’s been consistently good throughout our first four games. We shot it better tonight in the first half,” Adna coach Luke Salme said. “We haven’t hit many 3’s but we shot 50 percent, that helps us get things going. The energy was the key, I can count on that every night.”

The Pirates jumped out to a 25-14 lead after one quarter. It was all Adna in the second and third quarters, outscoring Winlock 34-9 to pull away for the win.

Salme noted he was able to get a lot of guys playing time and was happy to see them knock down some shots and play well in their opportunity to play some minutes.

Adna (3-1) hosts Onalaska on Saturday in the first Central 2B League game of the season while WInlock (2-5) hosts Morton-White Pass on Saturday in a C2BL game.

Onalaska Trounces Rainier

ONALASKA — The Loggers scored 24 points in the first quarter and never looked back, defeating Rainier 75-40 in a non-league boys basketball game here on Thursday.

Carter Whitehead led the Loggers with 18 points. Alex Frazier added 15 points, seven rebounds and seven assists and Danny Dalsted scored 10 points. AJ Volk recorded five points and seven assists in his first career start for Onalaska.

Wyatt Coleman led all scorers with 19 points for Rainier.

The Loggers shot 45 percent from the field and 84 percent from the free throw line. Onalaska had nine players record at least a point.

“Our defense was much better. We got some points off steals. Our effort was much better than the last time we played,” Onalaska coach Wayne Nelson said. “Our guys were unselfish. All guys had a contributions tonight and everybody got to play.”

It was 24-9 Loggers after one quarter and Onalaska kept the buzzsaw rolling in the second quarter for a 46-18 lead at intermission.

Onalaska (4-2) travels to Adna on Saturday for the first Central 2B League game of the season.

Timberwolves Thrash Vikings

MORTON — Morton-White Pass dominated all facets of the game against Mossyrock here on Thursday to earn a 78-27 win in a non-league boys basketball game.

Gavyn Higdon scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Kaleb Rashoff recorded 11 points and eight rebounds and Hayden Young was also in double figures with 10 points for MWP.

Duece Kolb led the Vikings with 12 points.

MWP shot 53 percent from the field and outrebounded the Vikings 62-20, including 27 offensive rebounds.

The T-Wolves led 22-7 after one quarter and expanded the lead to 45-13 at halftime. Mossyrock scored just 14 points in the second half.

“We played OK. Defensively, we did some good things, created some turnovers and it led to easy buckets,” MWP coach Chad Cramer said. “We did a good job trying to stay with Kolb. Offensively, we were able to come down and run our sets pretty effectively and score. We really took care of the rebounds. It was nice to see us crash the glass tonight.”

MWP (5-1) travels to Winlock on Saturday for their first Central 2B League game while Mossyrock (0-5) travels to Kalama on Saturday for a league contest.

Beavers Earn Revenge Over Castle Rock

TENINO — After falling to Castle Rock in the third game of the season, Tenino earned some revenge here on Thursday, defeating the Rockets 57-45 in a non-league boys basketball game.

Tenino’s Yngwie Dowies had a double-double with 30 points and 12 rebounds and teammate Alex Bratton also had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Logan Brewer was also in double figures for the Beavers with 10 points.

Ethan Perdue scored 10 points to lead the Rockets.

The Beavers shot 43 percent from the field while Castle Rock shot 32 percent.

Tenino led 10-7 after one quarter and expanded the advantage to 24-15 at halftime. Castle Rock tried to mount a comeback in the second half, but the Beavers scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to slam the door shut.

“This was a big game for us. We had a shot at redemption,” Tenino coach Josef Chirhart said. “It was a big game all around, big effort. We played well as a team. I’m proud of how we started and finished. It was nice to see some energy.”

Tenino (6-1) hosts Rochester on Friday at 7 p.m. in a girls-boys doubleheader.
