Summer Softball: Rochester Earns Two Wins

OLYMPIA — The Rochester combined softball squad was able to earn two wins in summer league softball action here on Monday.

In the first game, the Rochester, Olympia and Capital team defeated Rainier, Yelm and River Ridge 15-2 in four innings.

Capital’s Eva Cracknell started in the circle and pitched three innings, allowing two hits, one run and three walks while striking out five batters. Malia Kolle, also from Capital, pitched the fourth inning.

At the plate, Olympia’s Alyssa Hoffman was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs and Rochester’s Kassidy Byrd and Kaylei Clark were each 2-for-2. Rochester’s Kaylee Demers and Olympia’s Sophie Hoffman were each 1-for-1 with two runs. The combo squad walked five times and stole six bases in the game.

The Rochester combo team scored 10 runs in the first inning to put the game away early.



In Game 2, the Rochester combo squad won 4-2 against Tenino. Kaylei Clark pitched all five innings for the Rochester squad, striking out 11 batters while allowing one walk and one earned run. Tenino’s Emily Baxter struck out nine batters while walking three and allowing four earned runs.

At the plate, Olympia’s LJ Smith was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base and Tori Smith was 1-for-1 with a walk, a stolen base and a run. Demers was 1-for-2 with a stolen base and played great defense.

The Rochester combo team scored two runs in the first and third innings to build a 4-1 lead. Tenino pushed one more run across in the fourth inning but couldn’t muster any more of a comeback.

Rochester coach Dave Montgomery thanked Alan Clark for filling in for him while Montgomery was at teacher’s training in Seattle during the games.

The combo team is off next week but will be back in action on July 15, taking on Black Hills/Tumwater and Shelton at 6 and 7:30 p.m., respectively, at Stevens Field in Olympia.
