CHENEY — Toledo’s Kallie Schaplow took the high spot on the podium here Friday, winning the javelin at the State 2B girls track and field championships at Eastern Washington University.
Schaplow, a junior, notched a toss of 124 feet, 2 inches, outdistancing Davenport’s Laney Jacobsen by over 5 ½ feet.
Napavine freshman Keith Olson finished second in the boys shot put, uncorking a toss of 49-3.25 inches — which would have won the 2018 championship, but came in behind Lake Roosevelt’s Steven Flowers (51-8.75) on Friday. Pe Ell’s Jeremiah Yost finished fifth (45-8.75), with Toledo’s Jacob Butcher in seventh (44-0.5).
Napavine’s Draven Riddle took third in the boys long jump (21-8.5), with Pe Ell’s Dana Isham taking fifth (20-0.75).
Winlock’s Bryce Cline was fourth in the high jump at 6-0. Adna’s Elias Howe was eighth in the same event (5-08).
Napavine’s Trinity Underhill was eighth in the girls pole vault (8-0).
Friday’s early session action was mainly preliminary races, with finals set for Saturday. Advancing on to the finals on the boys side were, in the 110 hurdles, Pe Ell’s Braeden McAllister and Toledo’s Anthony Peak; in the 4x100 relay both Morton-White Pass and Adna; in the 400, Mossyrock’s James Cushman; in the 800, Adna’s Austen Apperson; in the 200, MWP’s Tristen Storey and Adna’s Brady Collins; and in the 4x400, Adna.
Advancing on the girls side, in the 4x100 and 4x400, was Adna, and Adna’s Carli Latimer moved on in the 200.

TACOMA — W.F. West’s Colby White finished fourth in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 4 inches, here Friday on Day 2 of the State 2A track championships. Burlington-Edison’s Taino Ferdinand won the event with a 6-10 leap.
The Bearcat boys’ 4x100 team also moved out of the preliminaries and will compete in Saturday’s finals.
Thursday’s 2A Results
On Thursday Jaiyden Camoza of W.F. West achieved a fifth place finish in the 2A boys long jump with a leap of 21-01. Teammate Colby White wound up in ninth place with a jump of 20-03.75.
Thursday’s 2B Results
On Thursday, Chloe Stewart of Napavine finished 7th in the girls triple jump with a distance of 34-09.5. Olivia Betrozoff of Willapa Valley wound up in 11th place with a mark of 32-06.25.
In the 300 meter hurdles qualifying races Hannah Cook was the top finisher from the area with a time of 47.64 seconds that was good enough for fourth place. Napavine’s Stewart was right behind Cook in fifth place with a time of 48.83 seconds. Jacie Dunlap of Morton-White Pass and Mikayde Weise of Mossyrock failed to qualify for the finals, finishing in 14th and 15th place respectively with times of 51.64 and 51.95 seconds. Former Pe Ell standout Alissa Brooks-Johnson holds the 2B state record with a time of 42.84 set in 2013.
In the girls 100 meter dash Carli Latimer of Adna finished ninth but failed to qualify for the finals by a twentieth of a second with a time of 13.15. Jordan Koetje of Morton-White Pass finished 16th in the preliminaries with a time of 14.65.
In boys action Austen Apperson failed to defend his 1600 meter title from last year when he finished in second place. Apperson actually improved on his time from 2018 (4:17:31) with a mark of 4:16:60, but Justin Roosma of Walla Walla Valley played spoiler with a time of 4:15:07 to claim first place. Nicholas Marty of Toledo finished in eighth place with a time of 4:40.94.
Tristen Storey of Morton-White Pass finished second in the 100 meter dash qualifying round with a time of 11:07 while Brady Collins of Adna finished fourth by posting a time of 11.26. Jarod Keys of Adna and Braden Bramhall of Toledo also managed to qualify for the finals with times of 11.35 and 11.43, respectively. Draven Riddle of Napavine narrowly missed the cut with a time of 11.55.
In the 300 meter hurdles Kaleb Rashoff posted a time of 43.25 seconds in his qualifying race but fell one spot short of advancing. Jacob Russon was a little farther off the pace with a time of 45.28.
