State Golf: Voetberg Tied for Sixth After Day 1

RICHLAND — Centralia’s Deter Voetberg is in the hunt for the state golf title.

Voetberg shot a 76 on the first day of action here in the State 2A Boys Golf Tournament, played at Horn Rapids Golf Course. He was tied for sixth, and three strokes behind leader Luke Hall of Liberty.

Burlington-Edison’s Connor Atkinson and Mark Morris’ Austin White were tied for second at 74.

W.F. West’s Will Alexander made the Day 1 cut with an 81, sitting in a tie for 23rd after the first day, and teammate Hayden Dobyns was in a sixth-way tie for 37th — along with Rochester’s Brock Hawes — at 84. That 84 proved to be the Day 1 cut mark.

Action continues and concludes on Wednesday.

2A Girls

RICHLAND — Centralia’s Julie Mettler and W.F. West’s Kate Balmelli both made the Day 1 cut here Tuesday at Columbia Point Golf Course in the State 2A Girls Golf Tournament.



Mettler was in 29th place with a 96, and Balmelli was a stroke behind — and tied for 34th — with a 97.

W.F. West’s Delanie Calkins just missed the cut, set at 99, with a 101, and teammate Carly Noble shot a 104.

Ephrata’s Kenedee Peters was in the lead after a day of action with a 77.

1B/2B Boys

SPOKANE — Adna’s Logan Boone missed the cut on the first day of action at Meadowwood Golf Course in Spokane, shooting a 97 in the first round of the State 1B/2B Boys Golf Tournament.

The Day 1 cut was set at 86.

Tonasket’s Cayden Field was in first place with a 71, and Ilwaco’s Brock Kukula was in second with a 73. Teammate Zac Tapio was tied for 17th at 85.
