POULSBO — Sobe-Toyota picked up a doubleheader sweep over North Kitsap to get above .500 for the season and, more importantly, moved into second place in the American Legion AAA Area 2 standings at 5-3. The Centralia squad got solid pitching in both games, winning 9-1 and 7-1 while collecting 18 total hits on the night.

In Game 1, Sobe-Toyota got five runs in the sixth inning en route to a 9-1 victory. Christian Peters threw six solid innings, striking out eight and limiting himself to just 75 pitches.

“It took us a little bit to get the bats going after a two-hour drive,” Sobe-Toyota coach Jake LeDuc said. “Once we got going, we got the runs we needed. Defensively and pitching-wise we were good and got that late offense to put us over the top.”

Riley Christensen, John Sharkey and Peters each had two hits, while Gavin Kerner notched a three-run double in the sixth inning to spark the rally.

In the nightcap, Sobe-Toyota scored six runs in the third inning and held on for a 7-1 victory behind a complete game on the mound for Sharkey.

Six players reached base consecutively for Sobe-Toyota to begin the third inning and Sharkey finished the game with eight strikeouts and allowed just three hits.

Elijah Johnson had two hits, a double and two RBI while Peters had a 2-run double.

Sobe-Toyota (10-10 overall, 5-3 league) will now play at the Mickey Merriam Tournament in Seattle at Lower Woodland Field, facing the En Fuego Futures at 2:30 p.m. today and Eastside Baseball at 5 p.m. On Friday, Sobe-Toyota will play En Fuego Elite at 12:30 p.m. and then the Queen City Rapids at 3 p.m.
