Senior Legion: Sobe-Toyota Downs Spanaway Lake

SPANAWAY — Sobe-Toyota was able to take advantage of Spanaway Lake’s errors en route to a 12-0 victory to hold on to second place in the Area 2 SW League standings here in senior American Legion action on Monday.

John Sharkey struck out 12 and went the distance for the Centralia squad.

“We took advantage of their walks and a couple of errors while playing a good game defensively and on the mound,” Sobe-Toyota coach Jake LeDuc said. “We weren’t killing the ball but did what we needed to do to get the win.”

Sobe-Toyota scored a run in the first, four runs in the third, another run in the sixth and then posted a six-run rally in the seventh while finishing with nine hits as a team.

Christian Peters notched two solo home runs, while Hayden Dobyns had two hits and two RBIs.

Sobe-Toyota (13-13, 6-3 league) travels to North Thurston High School to play the Thurston County Bandits today at 6 p.m. It will then start play in the GSL Showcase on Field 9 at the Centralia Athletic Complex on Wednesday at 8 a.m.



Sobe-Toyota Finishes Up Mickey Merriam Tournament With Win

Sobe-Toyota scored six runs in the third inning en route to an 11-1 victory over the Seattle Braves in their final game of the Mickey Merriam Tournament in Seattle on Sunday.

Spencer Burdick went the distance and struck out eight, including the final batter of each inning.

Elijah Johnson notched two hits, including an inside-the-park home run, while Alex Cox added two hits and three RBIs. Michael Rose had two doubles and an RBI while Brady Woodrum also had two hits and an RBI.

“Overall we hit very well,” LeDuc said. “From the start we got two runs, went off in the third and hit the ball all over the place.”
