WHITE RIVER — Centralia placed three wrestlers here at the White River Classic boys wrestling tournament here on Saturday.
Juan Gasper placed third at 120 pounds, Caleb Hylton finished third at 182 pounds and Alex Hicks-Avron finished fifth at 132 pounds.
Centralia travels to Napavine on Tuesday for a Mix & Match.
Warriors Finish Fourth at Aberdeen Kick-Off Classic
ABERDEEN — Rochester finished in fourth place as a team with Jayden Lancaster winning the tournament at 145-pounds here on Saturday.
Lancaster defeated Wyatt Murphy in the finals to claim the title.
Rochester’s Daelin Schlecht finished second at 126-pounds, falling 9-5 in the finals against Jeremy Roberts from host Aberdeen.
Riley Cohron also took second, falling to North Mason’s Thomas-Francisco Juan-Jesus 7-5 in the finals.
Reese Cohron claimed 3rd at 120 points and Jakob Span finished second and Talon Betts took third at 132 points.
“Overall, we had a great tournament. We were leading through multiple rounds as a team, I’m really proud of the kids. We have a unified team this year and they’re all working for each other,” Rochester coach Jason Dick said. “ I wish I would have had more champions but that’s how it goes early in the season. We’ve got a lot of work to do. I’m proud of Jayden doing what Jayden does.”
Rochester wrestles next at Eatonville on Tuesday in a non-league match.
Pirates Outnumbered at Ocosta
WESTPORT — Adna began their 2018-19 wrestling campaign short handed over the weekend and football is to blame.
Due to the Pirates impressive run to the semifinals on the gridiron they had only three wrestlers eligible on the boys side. Adna mainstay Lucas Ashley was the only wrestler who managed to medal with a third place finish at 170 pounds.
Despite the slow and understaffed start Adna coach Craig Ferrier noted that, “all three wrestled well for our first outing of the year.”
Adna boys wrestling will compete at La Center on Saturday.

Centralia Wins Yelm Jump On In Tournament
YELM — The Tigers scored 103 points at the Yelm Jump On In tournament, edging Stanwood by one point to capture the team title here on Saturday.
Centralia won out of 46 teams in the tournament. Taryn Salazar was the champion at 100 pounds for the second year in a row. Olivia Delaney took third and Analeese McAllister and Marley Farfan finished fifth.
Centralia coach Mark Holmberg noted the performances of Elena Lange, Faith Halseth, Jakayla Shipe, Alex Hamilton, Ali Silva Bernice Ramirez and Angie Contreras, even though they didn’t place in the tournament.
“I’m obviously very pleased with this outcome but it’s early in the season and we have a lot to improve on,” Holmberg said. “They put in a lot of hard work. Our juniors, I’ve coached since 7th grade. We’re coming in to where we should start being a pretty good team.”
Adna Shines at Emerald Ridge
PUYALLUP — The Pirates’ girls wrestling crew represented well for themselves in their first shoot out of the chutes here Saturday at Emerald Ridge High School.
While the season is still brand new Adna’s contingent of girls wrestlers picked up right where they left off last season. Namely, Cheyeann Meyer claimed a second place finish at 130 pounds while Keaton Dowell wrangled up a third place finish at 155 pounds. Joining the fray this year is first-year wrestler Zarine Walker and she managed to snag a fourth place finish at 135 pounds.
“This was such a great day for our girls,” wrote Adna coach Craig Ferrier in a email to The Chronicle. “We went from having two girls last season to having ten this year, with six of them being first year wrestlers and it was exciting to (watch) them transition from practice to competition. They gave it their all and gained a tremendous amount of experience.”
Adna girls wrestling does not have another match listed until Jan. 8.
