SPOKANE — The Chewelah offense wasn’t able to get much going and Adna’s Cole Fay and Braden Thomas each ran in two scores in a 35-13 win in a State 2B football tournament quarterfinal game at Gonzaga Prep High School here on Saturday.

Adna will face Onalaska in the state semifinals next weekend.

“We’re just happy to be in the final four,” Adna coach K.C. Johnson said. “We have great respect for all three of those programs. We get another shot at Ony and the best four teams in the state are still playing.”

The Pirates collected 236 yards on the ground, including 134 yards on 22 carries for Fay and 64 yards on 13 carries for Thomas. The senior quarterback was 6 of 11 for 86 yards and a touchdown. Ryan Young caught two passes for 46 yards and a touchdown.

Chewelah quarterback Jake Jeanneret was 13 of 31 for 196 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Kaden Krouse had five carries for 11 yards and Jaron Baldwin caught six passes for 89 yards and a score for the Cougars.

Fay scored the only touchdown of the first quarter on a 4-yard run for a 7-0 lead. Fay found the endzone again in the second quarter on a 1-yard run before Jeanneret connected with Nick Franks for a 6-yard touchdown pass to cut the Pirate lead to 14-7 at intermission.

Thomas threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Young before Thomas ran in two scores of 26 and one yard. Jeanneret completed a 10-yard touchdown pass to Baldwin on the final play of the game.

“We went over there and handled the trip well,” Johnson said. “We played good football. I can’t complain about that. We’re excited to play again next weekend.”

The Loggers defeated the Pirates 22-14 in Week 8 in a Mountain Division battle in Adna. Onalaska took down Tri-Cities Prep 50-0 in Centralia on Saturday.
