LONGVIEW — W.F. West defeated Wahkiakum in their only win in four matches at the Mark Morris Invite volleyball tournament here on Saturday.
The Lady Bearcats opened the tournament with the win over the Mules with set scores of 27-25 and 25-19. W.F. West played Port Angeles in the other match of pool play, splitting the match with a 25-23 first set loss but bouncing back to win set two, 25-17.
In bracket play, W.F. West faced host Mark Morris and lost 2-0 with set scores of 25-17 and 27-25.
The Lady Bearcats faced Zillah to end the day, falling 2-0 with set scores of 25-14 and 25-22.
“Overall, a lot of positives. We got to see what people look like in different positions, which was good,” W.F. West coach Emily Mora said. “We got to work a lot with a ton of stuff offensively. It was good to practice them in different rotations. We just got a lot of good looks from everybody, good to see where our strengths are and areas we need to improve.”
W.F. West (4-0) begins EvCo play on Tuesday at home against Tumwater.

Tenino Falls to Aberdeen
ABERDEEN — Tenino lost for the first time this season here on Saturday, falling to Aberdeen 1-0 in a non-league girls soccer match.
The Beavers outshot the Bobcats 11-2, but couldn’t find the back of the net.
“It was just a game where we didn’t take advantage of our chances and the longer it went on and we didn’t score, the longer it felt like we were one bad bounce away from being behind, and that is what happened,” Tenino coach Kevin Schultz said. “Credit to Aberdeen, though, they defended well and took advantage of their opportunity.”
The lone goal of the match came in the 65 minute by Aberdeen’s Emma Green.
Note: W.F. West lost 3-0 to Capital on Saturday in a non-league game in Olympia.

Austen Apperson Wins Hard Course Race at Three Course Challenge
WARRENTON, Ore. — Adna’s Austen Apperson added another win to his tally this season, defeating runners from more than 26 schools in the Three Course Challenge cross country meet here on Saturday.
Apperson completed the race in 19 minutes, 3 seconds, a full 20 seconds faster than Sam Lingwall, from Enumclaw, who finished in second place.
Centralia’s William Brown (21:58) finished 57th and Tenino’s Drew Hart (24:18) placed 161st in the hard course race.
In the moderate course race, Adna’s Jackson Humphrey (22:31) finished in 78th. Tenino’s Braxton Williams (23:11) finished in 112th place.
In the easy course race, Tenino’s Harley Whitaker (18:53) finished 95th.
On the girls side, Centralia’s Makayla Erickson placed 40th in the hard course race with a time of 26:46. Adna’s Lauryn Apperson placed 43rd with a time of 27:01. Centralia’s Brynna Rooklidge (28:35) placed 77th and Tenino’s Katie Snyder (29:44) finished in 97th.
In the easy course race, Centralia’s Kendra Sutton (24:50) placed 94th and teammate Miriam Martinez (25:01) finished 101st.
Adna races next on Tuesday in a Central 2B League race in Kalama. Centralia has more than a week off before racing in an EvCo meet in Rochester, and Tenino competes next at the Toutle Lake Invitational on Saturday.

Centralia Defeats Grays Harbor, Falls to Lower Columbia
Centralia had two games last week, defeating Grays Harbor on Saturday on the road but losing to Lower Columbia on Wednesday in NWAC West Region women’s soccer games.
On Wednesday, the Red Devils won 5-1 at Tiger Stadium. Lower Columbia got three goals in the first half from Kayla Willis, Sierra Thornock and Shelby Vermulen.
Lower Columbia’s Kaylee Murray and Vermulen each scored in the second half to secure the win. Centralia’s Gabbi Nowodworski scored in the 66th minute to avoid the shutout.
Centralia goalkeeper Kiley Russell made four saves and Haylee Perkinson also made four saves in the loss. Lower Columbia outshot Centralia 16-2.
On Saturday, Centralia snapped a six game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Grays Harbor in Aberdeen.
Amanda Jamison scored in the fifth minute to give the Lady Blazers the lead, then scored again in the 23rd minute.
Grays Harbor got on the board in the 26th minute on a goal from Adriana Huerta, but Jamison completed the hat trick in the 36th minute with an assist from Lauren Denholm.
Centralia goalkeeper Haylee Perkinson made one save in the win, with the Lady Blazers edging Grays Harbor in shots, 16-6.
Centralia (2-8-1, 1-4) travels to Des Moines on Wednesday for a West Region game at 1 p.m. against Highline and hosts Bellevue on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
College Volleyball
Lower Columbia Tops Centralia
Centralia opened its West Region schedule last Friday with a 3-1 loss to Lower Columbia in NWAC volleyball action.
Lower Columbia won the first set 25-20, and needed extra points to win the second set, 30-28. The Lady Blazers kept the match going with a 25-21 third set win, but Lower Columbia finished the match with a 25-23 fourth set win.
Centralia’s Autumn Durand had 13 kills and 12 digs. Tianna Hanohano added 14 kills and five digs.
Stephanie Fried added four kills and a team-high 18 digs and Peyton Timmons recorded 13 digs and 42 assists. Kary Sathre tallied 14 kills and eight digs for the Lady Blazers.
Mossyrock alum Paige Moorcroft had eight kills for Lower Columbia.
Centralia (7-12, 0-1) travels to Aberdeen on Wednesday and hosts Highline on Friday in non-regional games.

Mossyrock Mistakes Prove Costly Against Life Christian
TACOMA — Mossyrock had six turnovers against Life Christian, helping the Eagles earn a 49-16 win in a non-divisional Southwest Washington 2B football game here on Saturday.
The Vikings had three interceptions — two returned for touchdowns — and three fumbles — one of which was returned for a TD — that cost Mossyrock the win.
“If you take those away, we were moving the ball pretty good. Obviously, it picked up other than the picks and outside run game was struggling,” Mossyrock coach Chris Fried said. “Nick was pounding the ball up the middle, I was impressed with our running game up the middle with how big Life Christian is. Our defense, up till the end when we lost the wind in our sails, I think we were doing pretty good.”
There were a combined 44 points scored in the second quarter after a scoreless first quarter. TJ Villanueva returned a kickoff 85 yards to the house and Evan Gootgeld found Villanueva in the end zone for a 32-yard touchdown pass, converting both 2-point conversions. Life Christian scored 28 points in the second quarter for a 28-16 lead at halftime.
It was all Eagles in the second half, outscoring the Vikings 22-0 to cruise to victory.
“We didn’t play very well, we actually lost that game for ourselves,” Fried said. “we just shot ourselves in the foot.”
Mossyrock (2-2) begins River Division play on Friday against Wahkiakum in Cathlamet.
