ADNA — The Mountaineers were able to best eight other teams here on Saturday in order to take first place in the Adna prep volleyball invitational tournament.

“It was a great way to see how early in the season teams are stacking up,” said Adna coach Wendie Dotson.

In the round robin portion of the tournament Toledo took first with Ocosta, Raymond, Rainier, Adna, Naselle, Life Christian, Tenino, and Pe Ell rounding out the rest. In the semifinals Rainier defeated Toledo and Ocosta got the best of Raymond. The championship round saw Rainier top Ocosta.

The Pirates were able to defeat Pe Ell and Naselle in the consolation bracket. Dotson said it was a great opportunity for her team to work on new rotations and skills during a game situation.

“We’re really inexperienced. We have a lot of new faces so we are trying to learn how to read the ball quicker and make better decisions,” Dotson said. “Our goal was trying to find a balance so everyone would be effective with the people they were next to.”

Adna (0-1) will host Taholah on Tuesday.
