Saturday's Prep Track & Field: Pe Ell’s Schulz Wins Three Events at Rainier Invitational

RAINIER — Pe Ell’s Andrew Schulz won the 200 meter, long jump and triple jump at the Rainier Icebreaker Invitational here on Saturday.

Schulz ran the 200 in 23.71 seconds, leaped 20-09 in the long jump and jumped a total of 41-09 in the triple jump. Schulz finished third in the 100 meter race as well with a time of 11.74 seconds.

The Pe Ell boys finished third as a team with 77 points. Kalama won the title with 86 points.

Pe Ell’s Kaleb McCalden won the high jump with a jump of 6 feet. McCalden placed fifth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 17.16.

Ryan Shepherd had a strong showing for the Trojans, placing third in the 400 meters (55.25), third in the triple jump (40-09) and fifth in the javelin (137-05) and long jump (18-09).

Tenino’s Kevin Lomaz placed fourth in the 3200 meters (11:45.59) and Chase Blankenship finished second in the triple jump (41-01). Napavine’s Draven Riddle was fifth in the triple jump (40-00).

On the girls side, Pe Ell’s Maggie Elliott earned second with a jump of 4-08. Elliott also finished fourth in the javelin (95-09).

Napavine’s Chloe Stewart placed third in the 100 meter hurdles (17.45) and Xoee Pope took fifth in the 400 meters (1:08).

Tenino will be back in action on Wednesday during a 1A Evergreen League meet in Elma. Pe Ell and Napavine compete next on Wednesday in Adna at a Central 2B League meet.

Wallace Wins Twice for Toledo



SEATTLE — Reece Wallace won a pair of events here Saturday to lead the Toledo boys to a win in the Seattle Academy Season Opener.

Toledo finished with 192.5 team points, easily edging runner-up Mt. Rainier Lutheran (105).

Wallace, a senior, won the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 6.5 inches, and took the triple jump at 39 feet, 2 inches.

Larry Demery won the shot put with a toss of 34-6.5.

Toledo’s 4x100 relay team finished first, with Trace Bybee, Jacob Butcher, Duke Schaplow and Braden Bramhall (46.83 seconds) running legs.

Bybee took second in the 100 (12.06), and Nicholas Marty was second in the 800 (2:17.47) and third in the 1600 (5:02.14)

Butcher was third in the 200 (24.82), and Anthony Peak took second in both the 110 hurdles (17.59) and the 300 hurdles (47.68).

Michael Echtle took third in the discus (77-07), and Ethan Buck was second in the javelin (128-07) and second in the high jump (5-00), with a third-place finish in the long jump. Trey Rego added a third-place finish in the triple jump.

On the girls side, Toledo’s Ally Bacon was second in the javelin (132-06.5), and Kal Schaplow was second in the shot put (27-04). The Indians’ 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams, both comprised of Schaplow, Abigail Rowe, Stacie Spahr and Alyssa Gaskill, finished second.

Spahr added a third-place finish in the 100 hurdles, and Rowe was fourth in the 100 and fifth in the 200.
