Saturday's Prep Girls Basketball: Winlock Fends Off Naselle for First Win

WINLOCK — The Cardinals could never quite get their offense going and Tenison Woods College out of Australia took advantage in a 53-22 win in a non-league girls basketball game here on Saturday.

Addison Hall led Winlock with a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Tenison led 10-8 after the first quarter, but held the Cardinals to seven points in the second quarter to build a 26-15 lead at halftime. It was all Tenison in the second half, outscoring Winlock 27-7.

“The first quarter wasn’t too bad. We let them score in the last two seconds, should have been tied. We were only down 11 at halftime, we just struggled mentally and made a few silly mistakes,” Winlock coach Tori Nelson said. “We had a hard time recovering from those. Addison (Hall) had success but we stopped doing what was working. We just kind of went away from what was working and dug too deep of a hole.”

Nelson noted that a 12-year old, Kindyl Kelly, was able to get in the game and had some good minutes for the Cardinals.

Winlock (1-1) hosts Toutle Lake on Tuesday.
