SEASIDE, ORE. — Centralia was in Oregon over the weekend and traveled back across the state line on Sunday with a trophy after winning the Seaside Tournament here over the weekend.

The Tigers were in the semifinals on Saturday against Fort Vancouver, winning 12-2 in five innings.

Jeremy Wood was 3 for 4 with an RBI, Broc Selstrom had a two-run single and Jerad Frias had two hits and two RBIs.

Mason Titus got the start on the mound and struck out six in the win.

Centralia scored four runs in the first inning and brought the mercy rule into effect by scoring seven runs in the fifth inning.

On Sunday, Centralia matched up with Hockinson in the championship game and edged the Hawks, 4-3.

Conner Wasson was 3 for 4 with an RBI and Kolby Sharp had a hit and 2 RBIs. Wasson had singles to begin the third and fifth innings to allow the Tigers to experiment on offense, according to head coach Rex Ashmore.

“Those hits allowed us to execute some things to find a way to score runs,” Ashmore said. “That’s how we’re going to have to play the game this year. We were able to do things with him getting on in those innings.”

Selstrom started on the mound and retired the first 11 batters before giving up a hit in the fourth inning.

Centralia scored a run in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings for a 4-2 lead after five innings. Hockinson added a run in the seventh off of an RBI-triple and had a chance with the tying run on third base, but Jackson Hull was able to earn a strikeout to clinch the win for the Tigers.

“It was outstanding. We got a chance to play three games in three days. For the kids to be together and grow as a team, we got more than we thought we’d get out of that tournament by going there,” Ashmore said. “For the kids to be out of town and show the energy they did in those three games, sleeping in a hotel with your buddies, coming out three days in a row with high energy, we got a lot out of it.”

It was the first time Centralia had participated in the tournament, and Ashmore was pleased with how the tournament was run and the opportunity for his team to bond on the road trip.

“We weren’t real sure what to expect with that,” Ashmore said. “We didn’t know what we were getting ourselves into. Everybody there treated us very well. They took very good care of us. We definitely will be going back, it was a real good experience as a baseball team.”

Centralia (3-1) has this week off before beginning league play on March 27 against Black Hills in Tumwater.

In the seventh, Brewer was in a jam with the winning run on second base with the bases loaded, but Brewer was able to strike out the final batter to close out the win.

Tenino coach Conner Hogue noted the play of Miles Cannon behind the plate, who back-picked a couple players including one on second base in the seventh inning for the first out.

Griffis had three hits and Brewer added two hits for Tenino. Michael Born and Cole Plaja collected their first career varsity hits for the Beavers.

Brewer pitched all five innings for the Beavers to earn the win.

“It was great. The first game was a battle, they had a very good pitcher. We got to him a bit, but we got complacent defensively with a couple errors to let them back in the game,” Hogue said. “We came out with mentality in the second game to jump on them early. We performed two successful hit and runs and a squeeze bunt. We tagged the ball pretty well, that was nice to see.”

Tenino (3-2) hosts Black Hills on Thursday in a nonleague game.
