Saturday's Girls Bowling: W.F. West Wins Tower Lanes Classic

TACOMA — The W.F. West Bearcats continued their winning ways at Tower Lanes here on Saturday, earning the championship trophy in a field of 14 teams in a girls bowling tournament.

The Bearcats had a 217-pin lead going into the final two games against the No. 2 seed Wilson Rams. Wilson made a late push but W.F. West was able to hang by 13 pins to claim the title.

Freshman Piper Chalmers took fourth individually by averaging a 180 with a high game of 212. Sophomore Cami Aldrich also had a strong showing with an average of 189 and a high game of 205.

W.F. West assistant coach Rich Bunker noted the tough lane conditions had the Bearcats struggling at times but all seven girls stepped up and bowled well when they had to.

W.F. West is back in action at Fairway Lanes in Centralia on Monday, taking Rochester in a league match.

Bearcats Roll Past Tumwater

TUMWATER — W.F. West improved its record to 8-0 here Wednesday night, topping the Thunderbirds 2092-1555 in Evergreen 2A Conference girls bowling at Tumwater Lanes.

Ellie Bunker averaged 199 for the night, with a high of 203, while Kelsey Stritmatter rolled the match’s high game (225) and averaged 196.

Piper Chalmers averaged 179, with a high of 194, to lead the Bearcats, who won their 32nd straight game.

Samantha Bluhm averaged 158 with a high of 175 to lead Tumwater.

W.F. West heads to Tower Lanes in Tacoma on Saturday to take part in the Wilson High School Tower Classic.
