Saturday's Girls Basketball: Pirates Ward Off Toledo

ADNA — Tyas Pannette and Payton Aselton each scored 12 points to lead Adna in a 44-38 win over Toledo here Saturday in non-league girls hoops action.

Toledo led 24-16 at halftime, but the Pirates won the third quarter 16-5 to pull ahead and held on in the fourth.

“They really took it to us in the second quarter. They got us inside pretty good,” Adna coach Chris Bannish said. “We made some adjustments at halftime. We picked up our pressure to full court. We were able to wear them down in the third quarter and made a nice run.”

Pannette scored 6 and Faith Wellander added 4 in the third quarter to spark the run. Pannette scored all of her points from behind the 3-point arc.

“Hopefully we can get to the point where it’s somebody new every night shooting the ball for us,” Bannish said.

Stacie Spahr led Toledo with 13 points. Kal Schaplow added 11.

Toledo (2-3) hosts Mossyrock on Wednesday. Adna (3-0) plays at Wahkiakum on Wednesday.



Mountaineers Rally Past Onalaska

RAINIER — The Mountaineers scored more than half their points in the fourth quarter to overcome an 8-point deficit and beat Onalaska, 51-46, here Saturday in non-league girls basketball action.

Onalaska led 32-24 heading into the fourth frame.

“I think they played a great game — a great 3 ½ quarters,” Logger coach Dracy McCoy said. “I think our team came a long ways on Saturday. They fought and didn’t give up. A couple turnovers and key shots changed the tone, but they played an excellent game Saturday night.”

Freshman Kaeley Schultz led Rainier (5-0) with 26 points.

Carmen Cleveland-Barrera scored 19 points to lead the Loggers. Callie Lawrence added 8 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
