LONGVIEW — The second matchup of the Pacific and Central 2B League champions in nine days yielded a much different result.

In the end, though, not much changed after Ilwaco’s 44-42 win over Toledo here Saturday in the regional round of the State 2B playoffs.

Both teams are very much still alive. Both teams are very much still headed to Spokane.

The only difference is that Ilwaco will have an extra day’s worth of rest before hitting the hardwood in the Lilac City.

Behind 33 points from junior Erika Glenn, the Fishermen stayed just a step ahead of Toledo on Saturday morning to earn their automatic entry into the double-elimination state bracket.

Glenn scored 12 points in the fourth quarter and added 10 rebounds in a dynamic performance. Last year’s Pacific 2B League MVP, Glenn had been held to 10 points just over a week earlier when Toledo beat Ilwaco 38-25 in the District 4 tournament’s consolation semifinals.

“She’s real athletic. She can shoot outside, and she goes hard to the ball,” Toledo coach Brian Layton said. “She doesn’t stop.”

That was particularly evident in the fourth. A bucket from Toledo’s Stacie Spahr knotted things up at 30-30; Glenn answered with a 3-pointer. A pair of foul shots from Emma Cline-Maier cut the lead to a point; Glenn scored again. Gracie Madill cut it to 3 points midway through the quarter, and Glenn answered with a bucket to put the lead back to a more comfortable 42-37 with 2:21 to play.

Toledo, meanwhile, just couldn’t find much in the way of scoring. Madill finished with a team-high nine points and Greenlee Clark added eight, but the Indians shot just 27% (16 of 59) from the field and hit 8 of 19 from the foul stripe.

The numbers weren’t much different than the teams’ district matchup; Glenn was the only major change, on both ends of the floor.

“They put Glenn on Kal (Schaplow) this time, but they’re just a really good team,” Layton said, as to the difference between the two games. “We had it, but you miss free throws and lay-ins and some defensive stops, and then, we’re in the happy locker room.”

Glenn held Schaplow, this year’s C2BL MVP, to three points.

Stacie Spahr grabbed 18 rebounds and added seven points for Toledo.

The Indians (22-4) move on to a loser-out game, and face Colfax on Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. Colfax (17-8) beat Brewster 58-29 on Saturday in its regional game.

The winner of that Wednesday pigtail game earns a spot in the double-elimination portion of the tournament.

“We’re still going to Spokane,” Layton said. “We still have a chance to reach our goal… We’ve got to put it behind us, learn from it, and march on.”
