TOLEDO — It was by no means a shootout, but the Indians held off Adna, 35-30, here Friday night in a matchup featuring half of the undefeated teams left in the Central 2B League standings.

Westin Wallace scored late in the fourth quarter to put Toledo up 33-30, and a pair of free throws by Brian Wood in the final seconds iced the win.

Neither team shot particularly well, with Toledo going 14 of 46 (30 percent) and Adna converting 25 percent of its shot (11 of 44).

“That’s what I wish for every game, on the defensive end,” Toledo coach Grady Fallon noted. “We missed some looks and rushed some shots, and they’re physical and played good defense.”

Fano Arceo-Hansen led Toledo with 14 points, including all seven of the Indians’ third-quarter points, and grabbed eight rebounds. Wallace finished with eight points and added eight blocked shots and seven rebounds.

Lyle Metzenberg paced Adna with 11 points, and Austen Apperson added nine.

The teams combined to go 6 of 9 at the free throw line.

“It was a classic playoff atmosphere, loud, and a close game,” Fallon added. “I thought the officials did a great job, letting us play, like they do in the playoffs, so I’m sure we’ll see games like that in the playoffs.”

Fallon added that Hayden Farbo played well defensively against Apperson, the Pirates’ hot-shooting senior guard.

Toledo (14-2, 6-0 league) plays at Winlock on Tuesday. Adna (12-4, 6-1 league) hosts Toutle Lake (7-0 league) on Wednesday.

Toutle Lake Leaves Tigers All Wet

TOUTLE — The Ducks scored 37 second half points here Friday night in order to erase an eight point halftime deficit and defeat Napavine 61-52 in Central 2B League boys basketball play.

“We just did a really good job in the first half of defending them and contesting their shots and controlling the tempo but in the second half they hit some shots and were able to speed us. It was just a combination of things that got us off our game,” said Napavine coach Rex Stanley.

The Tigers jumped out to a 15-11 lead after one quarter and topped the Ducks 17-13 heading into the intermission. Napavine’s Dawson Stanley led all scorers with 23 points while Cade Evander added seven points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Keith Olson just missed another double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.

However, a 24-point outburst by the home team in the third quarter set up their victory at the wire as the Ducks bested Napavine 13-5 in the final frame.

Toutle Lake big man Mike Adams led his team with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Broc Keeton added 16 points for the Ducks while Logan Grabenhorst tallied 14 points.

“They are the most skilled team in the league I think. They’ve always got five guys out there who can score on you,” noted Stanley.

Stanley pointed out the difference in the game could be found at the free throw line where his team hit six of 14 shots and Toutle Lake knocked down 17 of 21 shots.

“We’ve just got to be better about playing defense without fouling. Especially when they are in the bonus,” Stanley said.

He also noted that the Ducks benefited when both Evander and Olson picked up their fourth fouls near the junction of the third and fourth quarters.

“Evander played really good defense tonight. He did really well guarding Adams, and that’s no small task,” noted Stanley.

Napavine (9-7, 4-2) will host Kalama on Wednesday.
