The Loggers weren’t able to get anything going offensively against the Pirates here on Friday as Adna won 10-0 in five innings in a District 4 2B softball tournament semifinal game at Borst Park in Centralia.

Adna will face Pe Ell-Willapa Valley in the district title game at 2 p.m. on Saturday while Onalaska will take on Toledo at noon on Saturday in the consolation semifinals.

“I’ve never been in the title game, Adna’s been in it a whole bunch so we’re where we want to be,” Adna coach Bruce Pocklington said. “We’ve still got to clean some things up. I think we’ve got to do a better job of starting. We’re kind of slow. I pull my hair out for a couple or three innings and then we swing the bats like we’re accustomed to.”

Haley Rainey pitched all five innings for Adna, allowing three hits and striking out 12. She was 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run, a run and four RBI.

Olivia Rodriguez had a hit, a run and a walk and Ruby Bower had a hit and a RBI. Payton Aselton added two walks and two RBI for the Pirates.

Hannah James, Chaise Cadwell and Oliva Mitten each had a hit for the Loggers.

“We played solid for three innings. The fourth inning kind of got away from us a little bit but I was happy with the performance out of the three solid innings,” Onalaska coach Rich Teitzel said. “They were sitting back too much. They were not aggressive like they’ve been in the last couple of games and we’ve been preaching to get aggressive and today we sat back and you see what happens.”

Adna scored one run in the second inning but opened the game up with five runs in the third inning before brining the mercy rule into play with four runs in the fourth inning.

The Pirates defeated the Titans 5-1 in a regular season game in Pe Ell on March 20.

“They’ve gotten better. We’ve gotten better. so we’re going to have to hit and play defense and pitch and run the bases like we’re supposed to,” Pocklington said. “It will be a good game. It always is with those guys. (PWV coach) Ken (Olson) does a good job.”

Titans Clobber Ducks 13-1

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley had its bats working against Toutle Lake on Friday as the Titans won 13-1 in five innings in a District 4 tournament game at Borst Park.

The Titans will play for a district title for the third-straight year, and will take on Adna at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Kamryn Adkins homered twice for PWV, while Olivia Matlock struck out six and gave up just three hits.

“It feels great. A tough game tomorrow and we’ll see where all we end up, but the kids played well today,” PWV coach Ken Olson said. “Those guys over there can hit and I think Olivia made it very difficult for them. It feels good. We’ll be ready tomorrow.”

Matlock helped her own cause at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a RBI.

Katie Adkins was 4-for-4 with a double, two RBI and three runs and Kamryn Adkins was 3-for-3 with three RBI.

Britney Patrick was 2-for-4 with a run and a RBI and Katelyn McGough was 2-for-4 with two runs for the Titans.

PWV scored three runs in the first inning, two runs in the second inning and piled on six runs in the third inning to lead 11-1 after three innings. The Titans tacked on two runs in the fifth to insure the mercy rule victory.

The Titans and Pirates played once this season, a 5-1 Adna win in Pe Ell.

“Both good clubs, there’s no question about that, they would say the same thing about us. It was a competitive game last time,” Olson said. “We weren’t as strong defensively and I think we’re a better defensive team right now and we’re hitting the ball better than we were that time of the year. Their thrower (Haley Rainey) has a lot to do with that so we’ll see how we compete, and I think we’ll compete hard.”

Toledo Punches Ticket to State With Win Over Morton-White Pass

Toledo took advantage of six walks and two hit batters by Morton-White Pass to earn a 12-2 win in five innings in a District 4 2B softball tournament consolation game at Borst Park in Centralia on Friday.

The win secures a berth in the state tournament for the Indians while the loss ends the season for MWP.

“It feels amazing. I don’t know the last time Toledo has been,” Toledo coach Ashlee Gieseke said. “We had a player (Jessica Hull) that had to have brain surgery the other day and so that kind of gave us motivation, this is for her.”

Payson Hoiseck pitched a complete game for the Indians, allowing three strikeouts and three hits in the win.

At the plate, Haleigh Holmes was 2-for-2 with a double, a home run, two RBI, two walks and four runs. Kyleigh Holmes was 1-for-1 with a walk, two RBI and three runs.

Abbie Marcil had a triple and a RBI and Brooke Beecroft added a double and two runs for Toledo.

MWP’s Hailey Brooks had a hit and a run, Jaiden Linder hit a double and Taylor Hazen scored a run.

Toledo led 4-2 after the first inning. The Indians scored three runs in the third, four runs in the fourth and added one last run in the fifth to end the game in five innings.

“They played amazing. They were on it, even with one little out, they were just on everything,” Gieseke said. “Their intensity was up, they were hitting the ball and that was pretty awesome.”

Toledo will take on Onalaska at noon on Saturday in the consolation semifinals.

It was the final game for MWP’s Taylor Hazen, Sydney Brooks, Hannah Smathers and Belen Salguero.

Winlock’s Season Ends With Loss to Ocosta

Winlock battled with Ocosta for seven innings but came out on the losing end of a 13-7 score in a District 4 2B softball tournament consolation game at Borst Park in Centralia on Friday.

Jenna Jones pitched all seven innings for the Cardinals, allowing seven earned runs and one walk while striking out two batters. She collected two walks at the plate and scored a run.

Raychel Squibb was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, three runs and two RBI. Cheleena Squibb was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Karlie Jones and Makayla Allbritton each had a hit and a run and Addison Hall had a hit and a RBI for the Cardinals.

Ocosta scored four runs in the fifth to take the lead and added two runs in each the sixth and seventh innings for a 13-6 lead. Raychel Squibb hit a solo home run in the seventh to try to spark a comeback, but it never materialized as Ocosta earned a state tournament berth.

It was the final game for Winlock’s Makayla Allbritton, Madison Lofberg, Joana Barragan, Cheleena Squibb and Jenna Jones.
