Blazers Drop Four to Lower Columbia

The Blazers were swept in a pair of doubleheaders by Lower Columbia in NWAC West Region action over the weekend, falling 6-3 and 8-2 in Longview on Saturday, and 12-5 and 4-2 at home on Sunday.

In Game 1 on Saturday, Centralia fell behind 6-0 after the first inning and were unable to mount a comeback. Though Centralia held Lower Columbia scoreless the rest of the way, the Blazers notched only three runs — two in the fourth and one in the sixth — despite out-hitting the Red Devils 11-7.

Wilson Kessel and Caleb Child both went 2 for 4 for the Blazers, with Kessel adding an RBI.

In Saturday’s nightcap, LCC used a five-run outburst in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie on the way to an 8-2 win.

The Blazers again outhit the Red Devils, this time 10 to six, but couldn’t score beyond a pair of runs in the second, batted in by Dylan Knoth and Brock Myklebust.

Carter Owens started at pitcher for Centralia and allowed three hits and six runs in 4 ⅓ innings.



In the opener on Sunday at Ed Wheeler Field, the Blazers led 4-1 through four innings, but again gave up five runs in the fifth, and eventually fell 12-5.

Centralia capitalized on five errors by the Red Devils. Josh Muneno was 2 for 4 for the Blazers, with a walk.

Cameron Campbell went 5 for 5 for Lower Columbia, with a double, and RBI and two runs scored.

In Centralia’s 4-2 loss in the final game of the weekend, the Blazers gave up three in the third inning after opening the scoring with a run in the second.

Second baseman Eric Fich was 2 for 3 with a run scored for the Blazers. Muneno and Child split time on the mound, combining to throw five strikeouts while giving up 10 hits.

The Blazers (13-19, 9-8 in West Region) host Pierce on Friday.
