2A/1A Track: Kennedy Wins Four at Elma

ELMA — Rochester’s Josh Kennedy won four events at an Evergreen 2A/1A League meet here on Thursday, taking both hurdles events and the high and triple jumps.

The Warriors won the meet with 49 points to top Elma, Aberdeen and Forks.

Kennedy ran 16.34 seconds to take the 110 meter hurdles, then ran 41.72 for the win in the 300 hurdles. The junior cleared 6-foot-4 in the high jump and hit 40-2.5 in the triple, winning by nearly six feet.

Journey Fortner won the javelin for Rochester with a mark of 159-0. Fortner was also runner up in the discus, throwing 137-0.

Also winning for Rochester was Cylas Belknap, who took the 800 in 2:16.75.

Gerardo Sanchez Carpio and Brayden Peterson were runners up in the 100 and 200, respectively. Carpio ran 11.74 and Peterson finished in 23.55

The Rochester girls finished fourth in the meet with 17 points. Kate Peltier was runner-up in the triple jump (29-4). Smbaikaye Huriavi placed second in the 800 (2:49), and Gabby Holman was second in the 3200 (15:22).

Rochester hosts its final meet of the regular season May 4, facing Eatonville and Montesano.



Tenino’s Burnham Takes Shot Put at Eatonville

EATONVILLE — Jack Burnham won the shot put in a personal best 45 feet, 7 inches in a four-team Evergreen 2A/1A League meet here on Thursday. Burnham also placed second in the discus with a mark of 117 feet, 3 inches for the Beavers, who scored 51.5 points to place third behind Eatonville and Hoquiam.

Chase Blankenship was runner up in the 400 in a time of 53.55, and Chance Blankenship was second in the 300H in 44.14. The two combined, along with Nihls Peterson and Gabe Virgen, to win the 4x400 in 3:35.5.

Peterson was also second in the high jump (5-8) and 110 hurdles (17.16), while Virgen was runner-up in the 800 (2:12.91)

The Tenino girls scored 21 points to place third in the meet. Freshman Charlie Letts was second in the 100 hurdles in 19.33, and third in the 300H in 54.82.

Maggie Cantrell was third for Tenino in the discus, with a throw of 75-0.

The Beavers will compete at the Shelton Invite today beginning at 1 p.m.
