Prep Track & Field: Apperson, Voetberg Win at Willamette Falls Invite

OREGON CITY — Adna’s Austen Apperson finished first in the 800 meters and Centralia’s Vance Voetberg won the 1500 here Saturday at the Willamette Falls Invitational track meet.

Apperson finished in 2:00.08, crossing the line more than two seconds ahead of the Corvallis’ Oliver Joss. The junior currently has the best time in the 2B ranks in the 800, the 1600 and the 3200.

Voetberg, a senior, won the 1500 in 4:14.76, and finished second in the 3000 (9:06.36).

Adna’s Bo Moon was fifth in the javelin (161 feet, 10 inches), and Centralia’s Levi Sathre was eighth in the triple jump (39-10.5).

On the girls side, Centralia’s Anastasia Ulrigg was fourth in the triple jump (33-08) and ninth in the long jump (15-06.5).

Adna hosts the Pirate Invite meet on Tuesday. Centralia runs at the Chehalis Activators Invitational on Friday and Saturday at W.F. West High School.

Bearcats Compete at Pasco Invite

PASCO — Kendra Bottenberg was the top placer among the local contingent here Saturday at the Pasco Invite track meet, which featured athletes from over 100 schools.

Bottenberg, a W.F. West senior, was sixth in the javelin with a toss of 124 feet, 7 inches.

"Kendra steadily improved her throws, increasing marks each time in finals,” Bearcat coach Autumn Ledgerwood said. “She has some adjustments to make and this was a great opportunity to prepare for what she will see in the postseason."

On the boys side, W.F. West’s Colby White was ninth in the high jump at 6-02 — matching her personal record.



"Colby is consistently jumping higher and showed a lot of promise with his attempts at 6-4,” Ledgerwood said. “He also had some nice looking long jumps but fouled on the board."

W.F. West’s girls 4x400 relay team (Courtney Bennett, Kelly Robertson, Emma Thornburg, Lauren Tornow) finished 17th at 4:12.93, marking a season-best time by 14 seconds and currently sitting fourth in the 2A rankings.

Mossyrock’s Nelson, Carlson Win Events at Wolf Pack Invite

TUMWATER — Mossyrock’s Ava Nelson and Jamie Carlson won events at the Wolf Pack Invite track meet here on Friday.

Carlson won the girls javelin with a throw of 107 feet, 7 inches and took third in the discus (87-09), while Nelson won the discus at 95-04.

Heather Edgar finished second in the shot put (33-00) and Paige Moorcroft placed second in the javelin (104-09).

Mossyrock finished fifth as a team with 71 points.

Tenino’s Chase Blankenship was second in the triple jump (38-09) and third in the long jump (19-03).

Rochester’s Chris Latham finished third in the triple jump (38-05) and Sufina Ahmath placed fourth in the triple jump (31-00).

Mossyrock, Rochester and Tenino all compete next at the Chehalis Activators Invite on Friday and Saturday.
