Prep Softball: Davis Grand Slam Leads Bearcats Over Tumwater

Kindra Davis hit a grand slam for the second time in as many days, and W.F. West came from behind to defeat Evergreen 2A Conference rival Tumwater 6-5 in eight innings on Friday in Chehalis.

The Bearcats trailed 4-0 going into the bottom of the fourth, when Davis’ grand slam tied the game. Davis also hit a grand slam on Thursday in a 23-7 win over Centralia. The sophomore finished 3 for 4 with five RBIs.

“That grand slam was a momentum changer for us,” W.F. West coach Mike Keen said.

Olivia Dean was also 3 for 4. Ashlee Vadala and Kyndra Haller added two hits apiece for the Bearcats.

Jocelyn Glasgo pitched a complete game for Tumwater, holding W.F. West scoreless through three innings.

“Those first three innings she pretty much shut us down,” Keen said. “She threw the ball well, but we dug ourselves in a hole with our defense.”

The Bearcats entered the bottom of the seventh trailing 5-4, but Davis hit a double to score Dean, sending the game to extra innings.

In the eighth, a single by Haller drove in Kassidy Grandorff for the winning run.



W.F. West (14-0, 6-0 EvCo) travels to Columbia River on Monday for a nonleague game.

Ocosta Scores Seven in Fifth to Down Toledo

OCOSTA — Toledo led Ocosta 5-4 midway through the fifth inning, but the Wildcats scored seven in the bottom of the fifth on the way to an 11-7 win in nonleague action here Friday.

“I was really impressed,” Toledo coach Taylor Woods said. “They had that one inning where they scored seven runs and that was what killed us, but that was really it. We weren’t committing errors or anything like that.”

Josey Delaney started the game at pitcher for the Indians, and Kylie Holmes took the mound in the fourth inning. The two combined to strike out six Ocosta batters without a walk.

Meegan Peters, Kayla Bauter and Keiona Trimmer all went 3 for 4 for Toledo. Holmes was 2 for 4, and D’ete Teitzel hit a double.

Toledo (3-15, 2-12 in Central 2B League) plays Pe Ell-Willapa Valley in Pe Ell on Tuesday.
