Prep Girls Tennis: Centralia Defeats Timberline in Opener

Centralia opened the season on Wednesday against Timberline, and the Tigers earned a 5-1 win in a nonleague girls tennis match in Centralia.

All three doubles pairs won their matches. Centralia’s top duo of Rachel Wilkerson and Carissa Kaut made quick work in their match, winning 6-0, 6-1. Bryanna Rooklidge and Danika Jensen also had an easy win, 6-0, 6-1. The No. 3 doubles pair of Shannon Johnson and Noel Pertzborn won their match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

In singles, Centralia’s No. 2 Gracie Wiley won her match after dropping the first set, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. Angelica Bercoe also won her singles match for the Tigers, 6-0, 6-0.

“It’s a building year for us. I was really proud of them,” Centralia coach Deb Keahey said. “They’re young, and a lot of them had never played a varsity match.”

Centralia (1-0) is back on the court on Friday, traveling to compete in the Helen Donovan Tennis Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Longview.

Bearcats Take Down Bulldogs



MONTESANO — W.F. West opened the season on a positive note, defeating Montesano 5-1 in a nonleague girls tennis match here on Wednesday.

It was a sweep for the Lady Bearcats in doubles matches. W.F. West’s top duo of Morgan Lakey and Jisu Han won easy, 6-0, 6-0. The No. 2 double pair of Kiara Steen and Ashley Werner cruised to a straight sets win, 6-2, 6-2, and the No. 3 pair of Lauren Balmelli and Kyana Jeffers won 8-1.

In singles, W.F. West’s top player Sydney Cameron won in straight sets over Rachel Ayers, 6-2, 6-1. Lexie Akins won her match for the Bearcats in the No. 2 spot against Alexa Couch, 6-2, 6-3.

“I think it was a good match with a team we were in pretty good control all the way through,” W.F. West coach Jack State said. “It’s good to get that first match out of the way.”

W.F. West (1-0) travels to face Castle Rock on Monday in a nonleague match.
