TOLEDO — Winlock was unable to match the wave of personnel that Toledo unleashed here on Tuesday night as the home team ran away with a 65-19 victory in a Central 2B League girls rivalry contest.

Eleven Toledo players scored, with Kal Schaplow tallying a game-high 17 points. Gracie Madill added 15 while Emma Cline-Maier notched eight points.

“(Addison) Hall fouled out. That helped,” noted Toledo coach Brian Layton of his team’s definitive close-out of the win. “But we got out and really ran in that third quarter and got some transition points and were able to pull away.”

Layton noted that Madill was getting out on the break and finding buckets in transition while Cline-Maier had the hot hand in the mid-range game. Stacie Spahr added six points and a team-high 10 rebounds for Toledo.

“It really helps when you have these other girls who can shoot and that’s what they’ve been working on,” said Layton.

Toledo’s coach was also pleased with the play of Haleigh Holmes and Grace Tauscher, who had three assists each.

Hall led Winlock with 13 points. Karlie Jones added four points and Kiya Peppers tallied two in the loss.

Layton came away impressed with Hall, the 5-foot-10 Winlock sophomore averaging well over 20 points and 10 rebounds a contest.

“She’s really hard to guard. She can shoot outside. She can drive. She’s aggressive and she’s physical. And she’s left-handed to top it off,” diagnosed Layton. “But our girls who were on her did a really good job and even when she was able to get by them we had girls there ready to slide over and help. You can’t really stop her. You can only hope to contain her.”

Toledo (9-1, 1-0 league) will play at Toutle on Thursday. Winlock (4-7, 0-2 league) will host Wahkiakum on Thursday.
