Prep Girls Basketball: Bearcats Blown Out at Prairie

VANCOUVER — The W.F. West girls' trip south was a rough one.

The No. 8-ranked Bearcats were outscored 26-5 in the first quarter and could never catch up in a 79-55 loss to No. 10 (3A) Prairie here Tuesday night.

Junior guard Grace Prom led the Falcons with 24 points, going 6 of 9 from behind the 3-point arc, while Cherita Dougherty added 22 for the winners.

Prairie went 8 of 8 at the foul stripe and a sizzling 13 of 22 (59 percent) from long range, while W.F. West attempted 33 free throws and converted 17.



Lexi Strasser came off the bench to lead the Bearcats with 12 points, and Sarah Haakenson and Shasta Lofgren each added 11. Kiara Steen played all 32 minutes and added 9 points and a pair of steals.

Erika Brumfield snagged eight rebounds for W.F. West. The Bearcats

The Bearcats (12-5, 2-1 league) host Tumwater on Friday in their return to Evergreen 2A Conference play.
