W.F. West picked up a big Evergreen 2A Conference victory over Tumwater Wednesday in Chehalis, moving into first place with the Thunderbirds after defeated them 4-2 behind a bevy of strong performances.

State champion Ty Gentry of Tumwater defeated No. 1 W.F. West singles player Daniel Blomdahl 6-0, 6-0 but that's something Bearcat head coach Jack State can live with.

"Daniel played really well it was one of the best matches I've seen him play," State said. "Ty is like 3-4 steps above everyone else and it one of the top-ranked players in the nation. Daniel hit the ball really well but Ty is so fast and hit some great shots."

W.F. West's No. 2 singles player Andrew Painter defeated his opponent Elliot Peterson 6-0, 6-0 to remain undefeated on the season while Ethan Tufts won his No. 3 singles matchup against Tumwater's Nick Stottlemyre 6-2, 6-3.

In doubles action, No. 1 Bearcats team Jeff Tereski and Sean Touhey defeated Devon Reich and Cole Holbrook 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 and the No. 3 Bearcats squad of Jason Chung and Jared Chung down Carl Myers and Jack Koelsch 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

"Jeff and Sean were up and down in that game but by the end of the second set they really put things together and they took it over at the net," State said. "Jason and Jared are kind of slow starters because they try to figure their opponents out. Once they did that here, they did a real nice job."

W.F. West (3-1 league, 5-2 overall) will play at Twin Cities' rival Centralia today.
