Tumwater was too much for W.F. West in Chehalis on Monday, taking down the Bearcats 6-1 in an Evergreen 2A Conference boys soccer match.
It took less than a minute for the first goal as Tumwater’s Shane Winkler scored 30 seconds in for a 1-0 lead. Isaac Morgan scored in the ninth minute and Dakota Seddon added a goal in the 29th minute for a 3-0 lead. Carlos Hernandez scored on a penalty kick in the 31st minute for a 3-1 T-bird lead at halftime.
W.F. West scored an own goal in the 48th minute. Chandler Stuart got on the scoresheet in the 60th minute and Winkler scored again in the 67th minute for the final tally.
“We struggled a little bit. We’ve gone three straight days without any training sessions, that’s just the way the boys schedule is. We just didn’t have the intensity and the energy to play defense like I would have hoped,” W.F. West coach Allen Anderson said. “It was a good, eye opening experience for the boys to see just how good the teams in our league are. They’re clearly one of the better teams. We’ve got some work to do before we played them again in a few weeks.”
W.F. West (2-2-3, 0-1) travels to Aberdeen on Wednesday for an EvCo contest.
Forks Tops Tenino
TENINO — Forks scored six goals in the first half in order to earn a 6-1 win over Tenino in a 1A Evergreen League boys soccer game on Monday.
Seth Johnson scored a hat trick for the Spartans, recording goals in the seventh, 15th and 31st minutes. Julian Holloway scored in the 13th minute, Oscar Gonzalez tallied a goal in the 29th minute and Hugo Sandoval got on the board in the 40th minute for a 6-0 lead at intermission.
In the 51st minute, Tenino’s Chris Ramez scored on a free kick for the Beavers’ lone tally.
“It was pretty sick. I’m not going to lie. That’s the second game in a row that he’s scored a really sweet free kick,” Tenino coach Kevin Schultz said. “Other teams should not foul us close to the box, that’s what I’m saying. Or anywhere, really. This one was from pretty far out.”
Devin Billings made nine saves in net for the Beavers.
“Forks is really good team. I think they gave us a good picture, especially in the first half, of how we want to play and possess the ball,” Schultz said. “This is our first year in this league so we’re still figuring out how teams play. We’ll make some adjustments for the second time we play them.”
Tenino (1-3-1, 1-2) travels to Hoquiam on Wednesday for a league game.
Black Hills Edges Rochester in Shootout
TUMWATER — Rochester built a 2-0 lead at halftime, but Black Hills made a comeback and won 3-2 in a shootout in an Evergreen 2A Conference boys soccer match here on Monday.
Enrique Sanchez scored in the fourth minute on an assist by Owen Hahn. John Mejia scored on a shot from about 35 yards out in the eighth minute for a 2-0 lead at intermission.
Black Hills’ Jordan Christensen scored in the 44th minute and the Wolves scored again in the 54th minute to even the score.
Overtime didn’t decide anything so the game went to a shootout, as Black Hills won on the 10th shooter for the league victory.
“Really well, very happy with the way we went out and played this evening. We didn’t give up,” Rochester coach Matt Ashton said. “Second half, Black Hills made some adjustments and scored back on us. Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a better game from our boys.”
Rochester (3-3, 0-1) heads back to Tumwater on Wednesday to take on the Thunderbirds in an EvCo game.

United Takes Down Columbia White-Salmon in Overtime
WHITE SALMON — United and Columbia-White Salmon couldn’t decide a winner in regulation, but Andreas Malunat scored a goal in the first minute of overtime to push United to a 2-1 win in a 1A Trico League boys soccer game here on Saturday.
It was a scoreless first half, but United scored in the 65th minute on a goal by Gustavo Barragan with an assist by Malunat. The Bruins scored in the 80th minute on a goal by Rogelio Olivares to send the game to overtime.
It was a golden goal overtime that took a minute to decide a winner, as Barragan fed Malunat this time for the game winner.
United (2-0-4, 2-0) hits the road again on Tuesday to take on King’s Way Christian in a league contest.
Friday’s Results
Bearcats Prevail Against Bulldogs 5-4
W.F. West’s Christian Mathuzima scored in the 80th minute to give the Bearcats a 5-4 win over Montesano in a non-league boys soccer game in Chehalis on Friday.
Adal Vargas scored off an assist by Cesar Morales for an early 1-0 Bearcat lead. Montesano’s Luis Muro scored in the 17th minute to tie the game and again in the 29th minute to give the Bulldogs the lead.
The Bearcats evened the score at two on a goal in the 34th minute by Luis Monzon-Barillas and an assist by Antheny Mendez-Leal. Muro completed the hat trick in the 36th minute and a 3-2 lead at intermission.
Mendez-Leal converted a penalty kick to tie the game once again in the 47th minute. Muro tallied his fourth of the game in the 60th minute for a 4-3 Montesano advantage.
Angel Hernandez scored off an assist by Mendez-Leal in the 70th minute to tie the game once again, and Mathuzima’s free kick goal in the 80th minute pushed the Bearcats to victory.
W.F. West outshot Montesano 13-7. Alex Brummer and Cole Hinton each made a save in net for the Bearcats.
“We were tired. We played a really physical game the night before against Kelso. It was our third game in four days and you could tell from the beginning we were dealing with tired legs. That’s what affected us in the first half,” W.F. West coach Allen Anderson said. “We talked at half and made some adjustments. We kept going at it and maintained most of the possessions, working the ball out wider. I was really proud of the boys for sticking to it, going down at three different points and two goals in the final 10 minutes to win it. It was a big first step for this group. We had a good preseason, hopefully carries over into league play.”
