Prep Boys: Shooting Dooms Bearcats in Loss to Prairie

Posted

W.F. West suffered through a night of shooting woes and couldn’t make much headway in a 64-30 loss to 3A Prairie Tuesday night in nonleague boys hoops action in Chehalis.

Prairie improved to 13-4 with the win, led by 23 points from junior guard Seth Hall.

W.F. West, meanwhile, was outscored 20-7 in the second quarter and managed just a point in the fourth quarter. The Bearcats were led by 9 points from Adam Schwarz, but went 10 of 41 from the field and 3 of 19 from behind the 3-point arc.

“We just shot really poorly. I guess the bright spot would be that (Prairie) is really potent, and if we could have just made some shots it would have been a bit different,” W.F. West coach Chris White said. “If you don’t make shots, it just ruins your mojo all the way around.”

Dakota Hawkins added 8 points for W.F. West.

The Bearcats (4-13) return to Evergreen 2A Conference play on Friday at Tumwater.

Tigers Fall at Kelso

KELSO — Centralia had a slow first half and never quite recovered here Tuesday night in a nonleague boys hoops loss to the Hilanders.

Christian Peters scored 24 points with 11 rebounds for the Tigers, who trailed 31-18 at halftime.

Cale Shute added 10 points, and Layne Pertzborn scored 9 with 11 rebounds.

Riley Noah led Kelso with 21 points.

“It was just one of those games where we didn’t look very good, and apparently just didn’t get any spark going,” Tiger coach Ron Brown said.

Centralia (8-9, 2-1 league) will host Black Hills in its return to Evergreen 2A Conference action on Friday.
