Saturday’s Results

Pirates Need 10 Innings to Take Down Bruins

ADNA — The Pirates and Columbia-White Salmon battled for 10 innings, with Adna walking off with a 3-2 victory in a non-league baseball game here on Saturday.

Gavin Guard started on the mound for the Pirates and threw six innings, striking out three batters.

“Pitching was great all around. Three hits over 10 innings and we played solid defense behind them,” Adna coach Jon Rooklidge said.

At the plate, Trevor Minkoff was 3-for-5 with a RBI and Elmer Loose was 2-for-4 with a RBI.

Adna scored a run in the first and second inning for an early 2-0 lead. Columbia-White Salmon battled back and tallied a run in the fourth and fifth innings to even the score at two.

In the 10th, a leadoff walk was followed by a single and an intentional walk to load the bases. Abel Ingle hit a routine ground ball to the second baseman but his throw pulled the shortstop off the bag as Chance Fay came across for the game winning run.

“It was good to play a game like that. We will need to win ball games like that as the season progresses,” Rooklidge said. “In a non-league game, you look for that kind of thing and playing a tight ball game, having to play for one run and defend.”

Tigers Start Strong in Win Over Mossyrock

NAPAVINE — The Tigers scored all six of their runs in the first three innings to cruise to a 6-2 win over Mossyrock in a Central 2B League baseball game here on Saturday.

JC Workman pitched in relief for the Vikings, throwing four innings while allowing two hits and one earned run with one strikeout. He was also 2-for-4 at the plate and Napavine coach Brian Demarest was impressed with Workman’s performance.

“I think he did a really good job, swung a good bat,” Demarest said.

Brennan Shriver had a double and a run and Aiden Weist added a hit and a run for the Vikings.

Napavine scored four runs in the first inning before tacking on a run in the second and third innings. The Vikings scored a run in the fifth and sixth but it wasn’t enough for a comeback.

“I thought we played well. We threw strikes, threw the ball well. A lot of first pitch strikes,” Demarest said. “We hit the ball well at the beginning of the game with a quick start and faulted after that. Workman came in and did a good job, that had a lot to do with it. I’m happy with the way we played.”

Napavine (3-2, 2-1) travels to Wahkiakum tomorrow for a C2BL game.
