Centralia Opens Seaside Tournament With 6-1 Win

SEASIDE, Ore. — Centralia’s Jeremy Wood pitched six innings and struck out eight batters to lead the Tigers to a 6-1 win over McKay in the opening game of the SeaGulls Baseball Tournament here on Friday.

Wood walked three batters in the first inning and allowed a run, but got in a groove and didn’t walk a batter or allow a run after the first.

“After the first, he pretty much cruised until the sixth,” Centralia coach Rex Ashmore said. “He was dialed in pretty well. He did what we think he’s capable of doing for us all year.”

Jackson Hull came on in the seventh inning and struck out two of three batters to clinch the victory.

At the plate, Broc Selstrom was 4 for 4 and Derek Beairsto went 2 for 3. Wood had an two-run triple in the second inning and Dominick Aguirre had a two-run single in the second.

“It was a step in the right direction. The kids came out with a lot more energy. After a long drive, I’m glad with the way they responded,” Ashmore said. “It was a fun game to coach and for the kids to play in. As a whole, we played much better defensively, a much cleaner game.”

Centralia plays at 4:45 p.m. in Seaside against an opponent to be determined.
